I'm an old Who-ite, brought up on the show, so I won't attempt - again - to explain why this hasn't maintained the original spirit. All I can say is that it's got the same title, theme and certain charcters, but the vital essence is missing. As a show in it's own right, or even an offshoot, it might not be so bad, but it's not genuine Who. Rather like a Rolls Royce with a lawn mower engine.
But, so long as you enjoy it, I've no problem. It's just a TV show after all. I personally see too many errors in character and continuity, so I gave up watching it because it taints the memory of an 'old friend'.
I've been watching Murray v Roddick instead. I wish they'd wear different hats. From the longer angles it's hard to tell them apart.

I've actually stopped watching it....numerous factors involved, partly to do with being busy, mainly to do with Tenant and the rather 'comedic' turn recent episodes have taken.
Like Al, I'm an old Who hand: the old series, whatever its flaws, still has great resonance, I feel. I was watching the Jon Pertwee story, 'Inferno' from 1970 on DVD last week, and it has the kind of nerve-jangling plot and an emotional involvement not on Russell T's agenda. The new series is OK if you're only watching it once, but it just doesn't stand up to repeated viewing, I feel. I've just been attempting to re-watch last year's series and the plots/stories/characterisations are so thin, they just don't reward my attention.
One thing I did like about last year's series was Christopher Eccleston's performance. But David Tenant seems to aiming himself squarely at teenagers and younger children, which I do find off-putting. I notice, though, that when he's given a stronger plot and a stronger director (ie, in the Cybermen episodes), he has less scope for prattting about.

RTD has managed to turn a 43 year old TV show into the success that it is today. How many other TV shows can get 5 Radio Times covers in a year? What other TV show can get the News moved back (the News should of followed on from last weeks football, but was moved right at the last minute!)
It's truely great being a Who fan at the moment
Daleks and Cybermen...let battle commence!
