I see they are not botering with too many facts !
In episode 1 they stated that Mary was 16 (whereas the Bible clearly states she was 13) when she met Joseph. I don't think the Bible makes any mention of Mary's father, either.
Enjoying it - Episode 3 will be interesting; how can Mary convince Joseph she wasn't being shagged when she got pregnant? No hope in the Old Bailey 2001.
I think an "Angel of the Lord" will pop along JK, to reassure him !
Matthew 1:25 says of Joseph that he “knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son….” Therefore Joseph did not have sexual relations with Mary until after Jesus was born.
Our PVR chose not to record tonight's episode, which is annoying but I can catch up either via torrent or iPlayer. I'm enjoying this immensely, even though I'm a long established atheist. The religious aspect is wonderfully underplayed {I just loved the almost down-at-heel Gabriel} and the girl who plays Mary is wonderful, just sort of joyful and happy {remember I haven't yet seen ep 3, where I suspect Joseph is going to give her a bit of a hard time}. This is, I'm sure how religion ought to touch peoples' lives. It's such a pity that it so rarely does.
Yes, well done to all concerned. Amazing how such a well-known story can be given such a fresh treatment, and seen from a slightly different perspective.
The birth was never quite as dramatic when I was in the school Nativity play !
