Am I being too sensitive? 14 Years, 6 Months ago
When Brian Moore wins Celebrity Mastermind by answering questions about Genesis of which numerous ones referred to their early days but all avoided mentioning Jonathan King?

No, I was thinking just that at the time.

Ditto me. I thought exactkly the same thing. Their first record company, their first single, the schoool where they met - all questions associated to JK! Wouldn't it have been lovely if Brian Moore had anwered "That would have been the label associated with Jonathan King, Decca", "That would be Jonathan King's old school, Charterhouse".

Brian Moore is a lovely chap. Glad he won. Though the competition wasn't very strong. Do celebrities remove part of their brain before sitting in the black chair?

Fortunately all it does is make me giggle at the predictability of the media; In the greater scheme of things I'd be a pretty sad human being if I gave a fuck whether or not I got mentioned in questions on a TV game show!

John Humphries really needs to moisturise. His face looks like a slice of dried mango.

JK - Why don't you go on the show?

If you let the people at the Beeb know you're keen to appear and you would consider it an act of prejudice against ex prisoners that served their time it might work. If it didn't you could get a newspaper lined up to expose the situation and how the Beeb are not prepared to help in prisoner rehabilitation. Either way it would be a positive development.

Not a bad idea. Jonathan Aitken has appeared on the BBC since his incarceration and Jeffrey Archer has also been portrayed in drama and appeared himself, so the precedent is there. However, Chris Langham and Gary Glitter have been comprehensively shunned since their legal problems. A pretty clear double standard.

Come to think of it, the erasing of Mr Gadd and JK from the archives reminds me of people being made "unperson" in 1984 or in fact in real life in the old Soviet Bloc.

But I thought your real name was Rex Kenny?

Anyway, the point is Ken that you broke the law for doing things which are still highly taboo by society's norms and of course the sentencing guidelines are quite clear to any judge in this area. When you consider the disgust and horror people feel when they hear on the news about what has been happening in nurseries in various parts of the country is it any surprise that the BBC is being ultra cautious when airing re-runs of Top of the Pops or devising questions for Mastermind? You have to accept that what you did was wrong and move on.

Yes Mastermind should have JK onto the show. Can you imagine the ratings once the SUN gets hold of the story - probably double them !!!

Ah but A155 - firstly I am not guilty of my convictions (yes, sometimes the system does get it wrong). Secondly, even if I were, is it any reason to rewrite history? Or do you approve of such censorship? Be careful how you answer; it's the thin end of a very dangerous wedge.

Censorship does need to exist where sensitive issues are concerned and until a final decision has been reached on appeal you'll just have to accept it as a given. Of course it is entirely possible that the Mastermind question writers genuinely forgot all about you. After all you didn't write Genesis's songs for them did you or, given that they weren't a covers band, sing vocals or play bassoon on their records.

Why?

What exactly do you mean by sensitive?

Who decides what is sensitive and to whom?

How sensitive does something have to be to need censorship?

I wonder how you gauge that people feel "disgust and horror" when someone appears on the teve ?

apart from when the tabloids tell you to.
