TOPIC: Amazing Harry Potter tale...

Amazing Harry Potter tale... 14 Years, 6 Months ago
Having watched (and liked) the latest film (Part One; Book Seven) in London before going off, I decided to see it again in French.
Morocco has a spectacular new chain of cinemas - Megarama. A dozen air conditioned luxury multi plex with big screens and terrific sound, deep armchairs.

Rather good for my (limited) language skills and abilities.

But the translation of Mad Eye Moody amused me - Faux Yeux - False Eye. Completely different meaning.

Such a complicated thing, language.

Are you sure it wasn't Fous Yeux, JK, which would mean mad eyes? The normal word order would be yeux fous, I suppose, so I'm probably wrong.

I can't be sure Anthony - it could have been Fol Yeux but it sounded like Faux Yeux to me (I'm no great French speaker - or understander).

Full marks for tackling a whole film in French. I certainly couldn't cope with that, and I have a degree in French, albeit 23 years ago, mainly spent in the student union bar or asleep. The good old days of student grants.

I could never have done it without having watched the English language version first, a few weeks earlier; it helped me more than I helped it!
