Definition of sanctimonious? 14 Years, 4 Months ago
David small mouth Cameron.

Paraphrase "We are prepared to kill and brutalise Libyan citizens in order to stop them brutalising and killing Libyan citizens they disagree with".

Cameron has really stepped-up to the mark.

When he first suggested no-fly zones, he was ridiculed.
A week later the USA was trying to knock him down.

Through sheer persistence and determination he has managed to lead the World to the UN vote last night.

British statesmanship - at its very best.

Funny how he isn't showing British Statesmanship by telling the Saudis to get out of Bahrain.

Also, great statemanship was not shown in prancing off to Egypt with a bunch of arms dealers around the time of the Egyptian revolt.

The man is an amateur.

Mugabe? North Korea? Human rights violations in Uganda? My God; if we're now dedicated to plunging the entire globe into British morality, we have several wars ahead of us.

It's hypocrisy, plain and simple - politicians always do this. One attitude where trade is concerned, another when regime change becomes a possibility. If the West found the system in Libya so reprehensible in the past then why did it continue to trade with it?

I saw this thread JK and thought it would be about Comic Relief.

Although I would add the words pious, patronising and self important toerags to the description of this 'charity'.

Leaving apart the legitimacy of invading Libya - which I consider doubtful - how dare Cameron spend millions on ships, planes, soldiers, SAS and others when we are in dire need of money to be spent on the NHS, schools, libraries - and the opposition and the stoooopid media back him to the hilt.

As a society we have all gone totally mad.

It's oil, it's power. We didn't do much about Mugabe did we, when he was butchering white people in Zimbabwe? Simple reason, there is no oil there.

I was going to say a lot about Cameron but realised that when I looked back, it made me look like a conspiracy theorist. And there are better Conspiracy Theorists here than me!

Ghaddafi was welcomed with open arms by Blair (who would have had full support of the Tories) and Britain sold him the weapons being used against the 'rebels'.

This is the old Saddam / Iraq situation speeded up.

JK is right- the no-fly zone is a good idea but who are we to decide which Lybians will be allowed to live or die-just as we did with Iraqis ?

And what about the dreadful Saudi regime where we send the Royal family to butter up so they will spend billions ?

We haven't invaded Libya, JK - please TRY to be accurate !

If we don't stop Gaddafi then all dictators will see that the best way to deal with protests is to kill your own people - and as the precedent will have been set, who could blame them?

This is NOT Iraq - where there was large opposition (in fact the majority view?) - there is NO opposition to this liberation - every political party is in favour, there has been (largely) no dissent at all.

The Libyan people called for help, the Arab League called for help - we are responding by getting rid of a lunatic dictator, who kills his own people if they offer any dissent.

I see that Qatar is taking part in the raids, and will help patrol the no-fly zone (according to their foreign minister Sheikh Hamad) and I expect that the UAE will be confirmed soon.

This is NOT the one-man-and-his-dog "coalition" that invaded Iraq.
This is a REAL Coalition, authorised by the UN.

Yemen's ambassador to the UN has just quit (over killing protestors) - the rest will soon get the message.
