A fascinating character sketch.
Obviously, I can't comment in depth, not having known Levy myself - but I'd always thought that Alvin Stardust had been a 'nearly man' for most of his career, up until his early 70s breakthrough. Shane Fenton and the Fentones only had a couple of very minor hits in the early 60s, didn't they?
And Levy did rather miss the boat by selling out to Warners when he'd just got Chris Rea on board, didn't he? Do you reckon Rea would have got anywhere at all had Magnet stayed in existence, with him as a signing? Or did he really need the support of a major label to break him properly?
