We encourage sensible and articulate debate and we remove personal insults and offensive comments whether they be about individuals or in general; of course, those doing some insulting howl that others have not been censored (they have but, naturally, you don't see the censored comments).
And we try to stop debate disintegrating into name calling and puerile idiocy. Sometimes we even stop it simply because it gets boring (how many times can one bear a ... Gadaffi's right... no he's wrong ... argument?).
Some, deeply offended, flounce off (we tend to remove the flouncing too; who cares?).
Others simply adapt accordingly without complaining.
Goodness me there are so many other forums to go to if you want to rant and squeal and hiss and boo.
The delightful (and dangerous) wealth of the Internet.
I think yesterday alone there were at least five comments specifically suggesting that I was a paedophile, two of which were made by somebody who has stated openly on numerous occasions that he has a rightful conviction for sexual abuse. My comments referring to that fact, however, get not only deleted, but the words altered giving scope for misinterpretation.
