No surprise he got off at all. Team Redknapp 1 Police 0. Team Redknapp stepping up the pressure in the closing stages, the police looking like a spent force. The crowd roars.
I went to visit a friend today at the News Corp Sydney HQ.
18 months since I've been there...the change is palpable. Despite their awfulness at times, News titles were always vibrant, exciting buzzy places to be.
The pall of gloom hanging over the joint is extraordinary.
My friend says everyone is in fear of losing their jobs or being laid off. They all know if they lose their job there that is basically the end of their career in newspapers.
The air of arrogance that was there 2 years ago has evaporated since the hacking scandal.
the general feeling is that Murdoch is now trying to get out of newspapers all together. The problem is he should have done this 2 years before the scandal broke (they had the knowledge)..now it would be a fire sale.
News employees openly talk of complete betrayal by management...the Red Haired one is the most hated figure...even on the other side of the world.
The one thing the prosecution couldn't establish was a motive - how the hell did this case get to court?
Will there be any firings?
Can Mandaric and Redknapp actually now sue the HMRC? The taxpayer now having to stump up legal bills for both sides!
It was the taxpayers (jury) who made the final decision, and they may have got it wrong. The fact is that money (equating to 5% the Crouch's transfer fee) was placed in an offshore account in a place where there is 0% income tax. The bonus Redknapp actually received and paid tax in the UK on was - yes you may have guessed it - also 5%. This is very strange considering that under the terms of Redknapp's contract, he was entitled to a 10% commission; why wasn't he unhappy about only getting 5%? Draw your own conclusions...

from BBC News -
The court heard Mr Redknapp's cut of transfer profits was reduced from 10% to 5% when he moved from being Portsmouth's director of football to manager in March 2002 but Mr Redknapp told jurors he felt he was was "morally" due the full 10%.
