tell me why nobody seems to be tipping Ferguson for the England job? Surely proven best manager in Britain?

Because his a Scot they wouldn't like a Englishman for Scottish manager. But he will be good and can handle pressure.

Because, apart from being a drunken thug who regularly accuses FA officials of various degrees of corruption after he's lost a match, he's already ruled himself out of the running for that job.

He is too old and entrenched. Made too many enemies along the way. and he seems to have lost his way recently. Redknapp? Probably, but he is known, if not found guilty, to have suspicious monetary dealings. Pearce? The Sun probably ruled him out today. Hodgson? Too old but a good stopgap. I'd go for Hodgson until after 2012 then knowing the FA, they will opt for a foreigner, Mourinho possibly. Or even Martin O'Neill.

Hodgson? A werry, werry bad idea. Great at face rubbing, banging his head against an iron bar and sounding like minor characters from Dickens, but otherwise, nah.

How about you Prunella your feisty. I wouldn't mind Big Sam but Martin O'Neill will be great if it's not Harry.

Ha ha! I'd have a go, but I'd have to insist on wearing JK's multi-coloured afro for all official duties. Seriously I think what that team needs is a great psychologist - they could bring in whatever coaching specialists were needed, but the biggest problem with England footballers is that they seem to have a huge mental block when they play for their country. Isn't it odd how so many really bright and crafty players suddenly seem stupid when they put on the England shirt? In that sense Martin O'Neill would make sense.

They did bring in a good psychologist when Kevin Keegan was in charge but he decided to fall asleep when he gave team talks.

Sorry it just had to be posted.

whoever they choose will probably just select the same overrated/overpaid players as all the other managers. That is one of the reasons England have won nothing for decades. We need someone who can think outside of the box.

You dont think England managers actually pick the team do you?
They pick themselves (even when unfit and injured).

The England manager isnt even allowed to decide who is captain LOL !

Thing is PH there are not many good players in Premier League that are British they mostly European and South American. Ones who are British like Rooney and Gerrard do sod all at international games but are superb in the league. We had Beckham, Rooney and Gerrard on the England team together and won nothing for us maybe they should look in to the Championship some great underdogs who could do the job maybe. Walcott is diabolical bad he can run fast and that's it not international level as for Heskey is slow poor at marking and seems oblivious of the offside rule. They should call up Delap great on the wing and throw-ins are fantastic.

Two of the best talents in English football on the last 15yrs were Darren Huckerby and Matthew Le Tissier. Each played for the "wrong team" so did not get picked for their country.

'twas a shame 'twas ..

Le Tissier did play for England a couple of times.

Fergie has ruled himself out of the England job many years ago. He's a die-hard Scot and wouldn't care too much for managing "the enemy". What would be his motivation? money?, he's already loaded. If he was keen on the job, then I'm sure he would be the front runner

For me, Harry has never managed at the very highest level (i.e. premier winning sides, or European cup winners level). The only trophy he has won is the F.A. Cup with Portsmouth, and he doesn't appear to be that interested.

Ferguson, way too old and a Jock.
I personally would go for Stuart Pearce, a lionheart through and through with real passion and enthusiasm.

I do think whoever we appoint as manager we will struggle, we simply don't have the quality players who can compete with the likes of Spain, Italy, Holland etc.

In my opinion, this is mainly due to the influx of foreign players in the Premiership, great to watch but doing little good for our national team.

That would make sense if there were lots of gems left out. But there aren't. The best of what England has are just not good enough. The Germans aren't that much better but their attitude is so much better they're looking far superior.

I'm afraid I don't agree about Huckerby. Le Tissier (if you go back a few more years) had his moments but he was incredibly unfit, he had a few chances and did nothing. You could point to the same kind, and number, of players in Italy, Spain and France over the past 30 years. The key point is they didn't need such players because they had really great players who COULD fit into a team.

France are not the team that they were but do have passion, fight and stamina unlike us. Henry is old slow and and just get the goals which are FLUKES.

Can someone tell me why a replacement for the England team manager is consuming the news? It's not exactly been a slow news week has it? Another example of the English-centric media methinks.

I don't care about anybody's drinking habits or manners as far as this is concerned - I just want the best manager. Remember - I'm a Brian Clough fan (and my only personal experience of him was that he had splendid manners; wrote me a lovely, hand written reply).

As always.

Even those who watched the 1996 World Cup admit - if they are honest - that Germany were a far superior team (and only lost when they went down to the Wembley "cramp" - something England had avoided by playing ALL their previous matches at Wembley).
