Owen Jones 13 Years, 3 Months ago
Is there a more irritating little tit on TV at the moment? This tiny little throwback to 1970s Labourism is on every news programme these days. He does Sky's news review quite often, and turns each one into a Scargillesque rant rather than a review of the papers. Now he's on BBC1 on The Week, doing much the same. He's clearly in love with himself for looking tiny and quite young, because he cheerfully says 'I bet the viewers think I'm still at school' every time he's on, but he's about as insightful as a very large piece of damp sandstone. Why do people keep employing him? He ruins every other programme I watch. Please make him stop!

Having endured this highly irritating ultra left wing tosser and his totally unreal and unbalanced rants on Question Time again I have to agree with you. So smug and self satisfied too.

He craves the exposure I am sure and I wish the tv media would stop inviting him on to ruin programmes.

He needs to learn the skill of listening to others who have a slightly different point of view (i.e. about 95% of the population i would estimate), try and see the other perspective and then debate...rather then take his entirely predictable views on prisoners' rights to vote, that Isreal is always the aggressor, and that everyone on benefits weras a halo and is totally victimised by the rest of society). Just 3 examples from tonight.

Everything seems black and white in this guy's world and anyone who has a different view to him has no place in his world and their views just must be wrong.

I am not a massive fan of Iain Duncan Smith (although he seems to be one of the cabinet who have actually spent time researching and getting on top of their brief) but he looked like he wanted to smack him one at the end tonight and I wouldn't have blamed him.

I hate to say it; missed this latest show and I have absolutely no idea who Owen Jones is.

Sadly I see Pru's post is from months ago; like BR, I wish Pru would return!

The bottom line is that Owen Jones has interesting views and has written a challenging book called 'Chavs'. That is why he gets invited to do tv programmes, along with the fact that he is very attractive.

Owen Jones is basically a left-wing version of Kelvin MacKenzie or Richard Littlejohn. To some that sounds ghastly but like the aforementioned gentlemen, he does make some good points from time to time.

Alf Garnett is a sitcom character. Played by Warren Mitchell in 3 shows, that would never be shown today, because the bigotted character (played by Mitchell & written by Johnny Speight) is given words like "coon" & "Scouse git". He's a Tory supporter & will never listen to any of opinions, bar his own. The idea (kind of stolen) by Jack Smethurst's character (Eddie Booth) in Thames TV's "Love Thy Neighbour". Where he bandies words like "Nig Nog" & "Chocolate Drop" around. Then the neighbour comes in & calls Eddie "a White Honky" & "Snowflake" etc.

Both shows are not for the easily upset (or those that like complaining to TV companies!)But those 2 shows, both pulled in audiences of 20 million, each week. Something that no shows, even dream of getting today. They were supposed to be taking the mick of people that don't understand other cultures, but were misinterpreted by some. Mainly kids, who went to school (the following day)& possibly copied the words of those in the TV shows...Though personally I never witnessed this by any kids, mainly because there were not that many people from other cultures, that were easily offended & ussually had a good sense of humour. These days, they'd take them to heart, probably. In the case of some, that would find a certain kiddies toy boarding on the racist side of things, & going rather over the top. Harmless 70s stuff, which all was quite innocent enough, at the time.

Where Pru goes, the likes of Rod Liddle follow:

This horrible little twit is on The Week at the moment. He's quite fascinatingly stupid. Cocky, self-adoring, politically prehistoric (I bet he wishes the miners were still a big issue) and blessed with one of the most irritating voices I've heard for quite a while. Horrid.

He reminds me of an old viz character called Millie tant.

He is so annoying and has trouble quantifying, in a realistic way, any of his arguments.
