TOPIC: The Big Match
#84521
The Big Match 13 Years, 2 Months ago
from 1983 .. on ITV4

It was interesting watching this. Totally different to modern football. No constant tantrums amongst the players or appeals for offside, etc .. they just got on with it. And no over the top goal celebrations that these days seem to take forever.

Also nice to see police looking like normal police instead of paramilitaries and without those ghastly glow in the dark jackets.

I have a load of these on DVD and yes it is West Ham UTD. Game is slower, pitch is just mud, ball might well be a lead brick, women go berserk for 'Arry Redknapp, much more aggresive very little of the red card real and nasty viscous tackles that be instant suspension in today's game.

Pop Pop Pop Pop Robson, score a little goal for me

Arry Arry Arry Arry Redknapp on the wing, on the wing.

Maybe JK could use these in a future song.

So have I andrew - and I remember the songs!

But sadly, your wish to stay at Upton Park will come true as a Championship team (which West Ham are now highly likely to remain) will not get the Olympic Stadium.

Maybe Sullivan and Gold will spend a few bob on Upton Park now though?

They need to leave it alone the stadium has never hurt anyone. We're in the play offs now which means anything can happen and we beat Cardiff twice but they can change their tactics and give us a beating. Reading surprised everyone for getting automatic promotion so just shows you what can happen.

PH maybe you should watch some old Leeds games they had plenty of tantrums, Billy Bremner was a right bastard on the pitch but a fantastic player who did all the work for the team.

Not much as changed with supporters eating chocolate, drinking bovril, swearing at the ref and at our own players.

We already have a second rate team (in the Championship) and a mediocre manager.

Upton Park may never have hurt anyone - but, if its not modernised, we'll continue to have a third rate ground as well.

The one thing in our favour (bigtime!) is two billionaire owners who are not too reluctant to splash their cash.

It's not a third rate stadium it's a classic stadium just like Wrigley Field. Sullivan and Gold should concentrate on promotion, wiping off the debts, get some first rate players but let the manager decide who to get. Eggy was a great chairman until the Icelandic banks crashed and made him and West Ham broke he had great ideas.

I settle to see Upton Park be redeveloped same location, same pitch, same history and still be at our home.
