TOPIC: JK's Olympic thoughts

JK's Olympic thoughts 13 Years ago
I'm thoroughly in favour, think it's great we won the right, feel it's gone pretty well so far, am optimistic that it will be a success but... have a nasty feeling that there will be some kind of terrorist incident connected and provoked by it.

And I have to say that Twenty Twelve hasn't put a foot wrong so far; funny, accurate, satirical, witty, intelligent and bloody good TV.

Re latest Salford incident ... is my understanding correct, that 59 G4S security staff were expected to start work today but only 20 actually turned up?

That means that 38 people had access to info about the location etc of the venue (and maybe even further security info if they had done induction previously)?
Now ... times that by 100 venues / locations.

Oh My God !

Re Twenty Twelve ... I've thought this very good right from the outset, but have a funny feeling that its far more realistic that we realised !

This disaster gets worse by the minute !

Apparently "less than 10" G4S security guards - out of an expected 58 - turned up in Newcastle.

news.sky.com/story/960789/cops-drafted-i...s-staff-fail-to-show

Apparently G4S have "vetted and accredited" more than 20,000 people ... how many never intended to turn-up for work but simply wanted accreditation to venues / security details ?

The really worrying thing is that there are up to 20000 accredited G4S staff (and who knows how much security info / passes they have?) and we are not sure of their motives.

Reminds me of the 9/11 pilots who wanted to know how to fly a plane but did not want to know how to land one !!!

I actually don't think the potential terrorist act will have anything to do with the Olympics - I think it will use all this mindless media attention to trivial details and will be well aware that it deflects attention from other areas.

Agreed.

Security at Olympic venues WILL be secure (visitors may have to wait hours !!!) but other locations - hotels / training facilities etc - where teams are based / visit - will be more prone to an attack.

And who knows where these places are ?
Up to 20,000 G4S staff who were accredited but never turned up !

This is pathetic people need real jobs more than 2 weeks work and getting minimum wage be better staying on the dole, and also they need to make a rapid reclaim and sort out housing benefits again.

Mrs May said 20,000 G4S staff had been vetted and accredited
source - news.sky.com/story/960789/cops-drafted-i...s-staff-fail-to-show

Mr Buckles told MPs his company had about 4,200 people "working on the ground" and expected that at least 7,000 people would be in place for the Games. source - www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-18866153

As the percentage actually turning up has (so far) been a fraction of those promised - latest news - "In the latest flashpoint involving G4S, the BBC understands only 20 members of its security staff from 300 originally contracted have turned up for various Olympic duties in Surrey" - www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-18866153 -
I think it fair to assume that the VAST MAJORITY of the 20,000 who HAVE BEEN ACCREDITED AND VETTED will be wandering around with security passes but no intention of doing security work !

You couldn't make this stuff up:

"Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith has ordered Jobcentre officials to create an online recruitment campaign to fill roles at dozens of Britain’s top firms.

This has opened up 30,000 vacancies in shops, fast-food restaurants and cleaning firms across Britain."

I believe, when all the hullaballoo is over, that the London games will be declared "the best ever" and eclipse the Sydney 2000 games.

We all know the Brits do these things better so sit back and enjoy them..only two weeks. You too In The Know!
