Frankel may prove to be the rarest of all thoroughbred horses since the 18th century Arab nags were first bred for racing in Britain.
Most athlete-runners including humans, and greyhounds, specialise in certain distances, but Frankel's expert insiders believe he has the power, talent, and temperament to win over any standard distance in any conditions. From 5 & 6 furlong very short sprints lasting less than a minute, thru his favoured 8-furlongs/1 mile and now past the mile recently trashing the best over 10 furlongs.
If (sadly unlikely for his fans) he is sent to contest, and wins, Europe's richest thoroughbred race the 1 1/2 mile Prix De L'Arc De Triomphe at Longchamps in October, he will complete an unbeaten, never equalled all top grade winning career; before being retired to stud, servicing the sport's top mares.
Priceless talents like Frankel rarely race for more then 2 or 3 years (or go on to jumping for another 10-years), they are too valuable as breeders, and are soon retired to stud, where their, often Arab, owners realise their full profit potential. Which is where the industrial money side of racing really kicks-in (to coina phrase), with circa £1/4 Million per 'cover' as the tough work is eumphemistically known.
