Mad Farmers start badger cull - certain areas - today 12 Years, 10 Months ago
Listen to the debate on Jeremy Vine at 12 noon.

There is not the slightest shred of evidence that badgers produce bovine TB (the clue is in the name !!!!) - and it could be just as likely that infected cattle are infecting badgers.

A selective cull just means that the insane farmers have some new animal to torture (foxes are now taboo !) - and means OTHER badgers will just move into the "clean" areas.

Calls for milk to be banned from cull areas !

I think we are well overdue a cull of farmers.

According to the Mad Farmers spokeman (backed by BBC Farming Today reporter) they have to cull 70% of badgers (but admit they dont know how many there are, so will never ever know when they have reached their target !) in order to reduce bovine TB (ie CATTLE TB !) by 16% !

No one seemed able to explain why a 70% cull will produce a reduction of only 16%.

This is lunacy - plain and simple.
But what else would you expect from the interbred mad farmers ?

Badger cull 'mindless', say top scientists

Government's chief scientist among those who dispute evidence used to justify killings, which may begin imminently

Britain's top animal disease scientists have launched a devastating attack on the government's "mindless" badger cull, accusing ministers of failing to tell the truth and demanding the immediate abandonment of the killings.

The intervention by dozens of the nation's most senior experts comes as farmers prepare to begin the cull in Gloucestershire and Somerset, possibly as early as tomorrow. The government's own chief scientist has refused to back the killings.

More than 30 eminent animal disease experts describe the cull as a "costly distraction" that risks making the problem of tuberculosis in cattle worse and that will cost far more than it saves.

The obvious question is "why are Britain's cows' immune systems so useless? ... this of course has nothing to do with badgers who've been in these islands for longer than cows I presume. TB is endemic in huge swathes of the planet where there are no vaccinations with 50% of the population carry the bacteria but their immune systems have dealt with the TB as any unvaccinated person with an healthy immune system would have done.

Scotland is TB-free, apparently, and the Welsh government has gone for vaccination instead of culls.

Sanity returns (temporarily, maybe)

The government has announced it will delay a planned cull of badgers in England until next summer, after widespread protests against the scheme.

The REAL reason for the delay in the cull -

apparently there are too many badgers - and the (mad) farmers dont want to pay for the cull (as they were expected to pay for each badger killed)!

.... so much for "protecting our cattle" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
