Anonymity for accused teachers... 12 Years, 9 Months ago
At last tomorrow the law is changed so that innocent teachers accused of abuse cannot be named in the media.
The media, of course, is quite rightly up in arms. This will kill many good stories. The only thing that matters is a good story.
Unfortunately names CAN be used if and when they get charged (innocent until PROVED guilty? At last society has abandoned that silly idea which would kill so many good stories).
And anyone NOT a teacher can still have their lives ruined.
The argument against this law is the old faithful "children never lie"... and the even better one (my personal favourite) people who were ONCE children never lie (historical claims).
As I get older and more detached from life and reality, I smile tolerantly at the human race, charging blindly and merrily down the road to destruction.

I see they are using the teacher who ran away to France as an example for this not to be a law (despite there being absolutely no proof yet anything has happened and from all indications to the decision to go to France was consenual)
Of course the media love promoting the concept that a person of 15/16/17 must be as innocent as the driven snow and can never be capable of making their own decision.
Yet my grandmother became pregnant with my father when she was 16. It must have been a scandal then for other reasons (although no shotgun wedding so perhaps her parents were sensible).
The media and the scary 'child protection" experts love telling children their 'lives have been ruined'. Weird.
