oh keep up Andrew. Jimmy Savile was the most powerful man in England..ney Europe.

He was untouchable. He was more powerful that the Royal Family, the Prime Minister, the Pope, MI5 and MI6. The UN.

I met him once outside the jungle of the studios and dressing rooms (not enough room to swing a cat, let alone have sex, and with tiny lockable bathrooms - but no alcoves for Jimmy to pull people into (leaving the dressing room door open - how intelligent).

That once was a day at Stoke Mandeville where we witnessed the most marvellous, energetic, kind man cheering up dozens of paralyzed people with often terminal spinal trauma.

Eccentric? Yes. Flirtatious? Yes - with everybody... journalists, gardeners, receptionists, burly men, nurses, cleaners - though not, I'm sad to say, ME. Sometimes over the top? Every time. Sinner or saint? From what I saw, saint - but that was one day in a long life. Who knows what happened the rest of the time? I certainly don't.

So "best friend"? Not in a million years. But on the one day I saw him in action, he was magnificent.

And you know what? Privately, over a cup of tea at the end of the day, he didn't even hint that a donation to the hospital would be nice. Which was obviously the reason I'd been invited there.

Did I actually, anonymously, later donate money to the hospital? I leave you to guess.

I saw Savile kissing Santa Claus.

one report...in that organ of repute the Daily Express says he fiddled with a girl who came out of brain surgery and another from back surgery.

No-one was safe apparently...young girls, the mentally deficient.. young boys..teen groupies..middle aged ladies.

For all we know he was having it off with his dear old Mum..after all he was always talking about her.

One poor lass was so mesmerised apparently she went back 12 times to his Rolls Royce to be fiddled with.

You have to believe all these reports because they all concur...Jimmy Savile demanded either sex or blow jobs and had a good fiddle and as well all know..that would uniquely identify him as distinct from about 30 million other British men.

Close friends for 25 years..., just like a sabra - 'prickly on the outside, soft and lovely on the inside'.

I see one of Savile's nephews has now come forward with more revelations about JS from the 60s. The nephew says that he and some friends once ran away to London where they met Uncle Jimmy at a flat used by dubious men. He dragged them away from there, and took them to celebrity parties where children as young as ten were present. Read the article - I won't go into detail here.

Don't believe everything you read in the media; we were never "close friends" and I met him superficially more than 25 years earlier - Everyone's Gone To The Moon was 35 years before this incorrect article.

At the very base level....forget celebrity, forget opportunity, forget misfortunate circumstances (care or approved school) .....protection of under age from adults is paramount. No debate otherwise, and no mitigating circumstances should be entertained. Wrong is wrong

So JS never wrote to you while you are serving time in prison, as was reported?

Agreed!

But are you referring to the alleged actions of Jimmy Savile or the way adults are now sensationalising and profiting from things that may or may not have happened 40 years ago when moral attitudes towards 'sexual freedom' (including for the 'underage') were very different?

There are only 2 problems with that, andrew -

1. Savile may have defended himself, and,
2. the jury may have believed him !!!!

(I remember a lawyer saying to me years ago - if you ever knock anyone down, make sure they are dead - makes the case much easier to defend with only one version of events LOL !)

All these sad little people - they thought they were special being groped by someone so important - and now they discover that he groped everyone on the planet and there was nothing special about them at all !!!!

when I was young I once knew a man who was arrested for slashing his wife to death with a carving knife.

he was charged with murder and the local media had a field day describing in detail how the poor woman's head was almost separated from her body and the kitchen was dripping in blood and the odd life of her 'alleged' killer..shifting from job to job etc etc.

Neighbours lined up confirm how they had always been suspicious of this 'creepy' man.

2 years later (after all that time on remand) he was found Not Guilty and the judge congratulated the jury on the correct verdict.

Rumours swirled that he 'got away with murder' from those who never spent a minute in the court hearing evidence.

5 years later a man arrested for another murder confessed to killing this bloke's wife when discovered by her during a burglary. He was convicted and sent to a psychiatric unit for life.

A later heard the poor husband was so consumed with grief...that apparently only hit him fully after the real killer was convicted, he killed himself with an overdose.
