Not been keeping up with this story - dont watch TV news anymore - so you may all know far more than me.

How can someone be charged with murder when there is no victim (body), and we don't really know a murder has taken place?

The jury would have to decide "beyond reasonable doubt" - and surely there would always be doubt until a body was found?

... or is "guilt by tabloid" all that is required these days?

Yes ITK, we do.

But, why seek news/info on here?

Do you not read the papers, as well?

Murder convictions are common, in the UK and worldwide, without the victim's body being found.

I met someone in prison doing life for murdering his wife. Her body had not been found. Soon after his conviction she walked into her parent's house, safe and well. He remained in prison for months whist the police "ascertained it was, in fact, her".

No - gave up on newspapers years ago ... why buy yesterdays "news" ?

Obviously I'm not the only one - hence the dramatic slip on sales.

The only thing I know about this story is the brief headline glimpses when trawling the web BUT that doesn't make the question any less pertinent

If I was on the jury I would need considerable and compelling evidence to persuade me that someone was guilty of murder - with no body !

That also means there's NO evidence (of either death or murder).

I feel a Yates moment coming on - police under pressure etc - arrest someone / convict them.

I sincerely hope that April is still alive (maybe locked away in some remote location?) and has food and water to sustain her - and that she will be found very alive and reasonably well, very soon.

Don't believe all you see on the web, ITK! Just as bad as tabloids etc. - just more up to date, sometimes!

As Ron said, a body is not required for a murder conviction.

Shannon Matthews: The girl who came back from the dead

West Yorkshire Police's elite homicide and major inquiry team has been in charge of the search, indicating how unlikely they thought it was that they would find Shannon alive.
