Anne Frank was born in Frankfurt am Main in 1929.
The family fled to the Netherlands in 1933, when Hitler came to power.
Here they lived peacefully until Germany occupied the country in 1940.
They then hid in a house at the "Prinsengracht" in Amsterdam.
Anne wrote her diary from June 1942 to August 1944. In Dutch of course.
The family was deported to Germany, where Anne died in March 1945 in the concentration camp of Bergen Belsen.
Only her father Otto Frank survived.
Her diary was found after the war and published in 1946 in Dutch as "Het achterhuis".
