Leonard Rossiter..another all powerful BBC figure who could silence victims.

I always thought he was an actor who was most likely out of work more often than in, and was lucky to have had a couple of shows that were popular.

But then i always though J.Savile was celibate

From the 1960s onwards, every week the News of The World would bust some public figure or an errant Vicar involved in a sex scandal but never at the BBC !!

or is my memory of a top BBC producer who was accused by his male Thai lover of keeping him as a sex slave in 1988 a figment of my imagination ?...said producer had his name splashed all over the media until finally proof was presented that Thai lover had written blackmail notes.

History is being re-written by the Third Estate that is obliterating it's partcipation in promoting alleged abusers ..imagine their power if they could destroy the BBC or preferably, have it split up and hive off the best parts for themselves.

He started as a bit part actor, like many though. Then, Rising Damp, Reggie, Tripper's Day took him to his eventual death. No retirement fund needed (at 57).

I'm think of actors/actresses that didn't really have to appear constantly, to be paid well. An example (I can think of) is Sheila Fearn (Audrey in The Likely Lads & Ann Fourmile in George & Mildred). I seem to remember those 2 shows, kept her going for 16 years & then she apparently, then largely retired from TV.

I got the impression he was always in work - a bit like Sid James. Although he wasn't on TV constantly he did loads of stagework. I think he died in his dressing room during a performance! Apparently a very professional no-nonsense actor who took his job very seriously and expected the same from his fellow performers.

yes like Sid James he probably made a fortune away from acting doing live shows, appearances clubs etc.

But why would an abused person not complain at the time ?

Tabloids still trying to promote this idea that somehow people (mainly at the BBC) were untouchable.

There is however a writer researching the tabloid mentality and it's role in promoting the Savile's of the world (guilty or innocent).

Shame all this didn't happen before the Leveson Inquiry but perhaps he's taken note.
