TOPIC: Well done Obama
#89958
Well done Obama 12 Years, 8 Months ago
A decent President (not that it makes much difference) who is clearly a decent man; what more could anyone ask?

His Health Care reforms would have made me vote for him, if I was more than 50% Yank.

When I was a teenager I got hooked on elections; I was lucky enough to attend the Republican convention in San Francisco in 1964; my Godfather was Editor of Newsweek and I flew the Front Cover Art to New York for him.

Barry Goldwater was then the Presidential candidate. My family and I always supported the Democrats though.

Since then I've been to many Conventions and even met Ronald Reagan (though I supported Independent John Anderson that year).

The excitement remains. And, of course, I was at school with David and Jonathan Dimbleby.

Was that the political convention you mention in your book, the one at which you somehow got dragged into along with the politicians' entourage by mistake?

No, that was later when I was covering the Jimmy Carter convention for the BBC. 1980 in New York.

have to agree with Mr Retro : out of 2 Wall Street candidates, one won.

That said.. better the devil you know etc etc and add you own saying..blah blah.

Obama's health care is a great plus and watching some Americans describe him as a Commie or even Socialist (as thought that's a bad thing !! ), you must wonder how they become so ignorant.

Hopefully an end to Tea Party etc but extreme right wing probably just re-group and become even more dangerous.

and this endless crap about 'balancing the budget'..why?. Government isn't a business.

Romney set up universal health care (which some of the right wingers call 'Socialism' without even knowing the meaning of the word) in Mass. whilst Governor.
Maybe he wasn't right wing enough for his party?
It does get me that a country so vivid and so strong as the USA can't even look after it's own citizens.
