Just been to the Chatsworth Christmas Fair (absolutely packed !!!!) and next week Haddon Hall at Christmas, plus the Victoria Christmas market at Matlock the week after.

I love this time of year.

I love this time of year too, and today has been glorious, hasn't it (I'm in Nottingham)?

A Christmas market in Matlock sounds lovely, it's a beautiful place as it is.

I hate this time of year (the world in the UK seems to be dying and we won't feel heat again for ages) but today was fabulous; bright sun, blue sky, fresh cool air, absolutely beautiful.

Yes, held in the park right in the middle of town.

Have you been to Haddon, david? Its probably Britain's finest near-original medieval manorhouse (largely because it wasnt lived-in for quite some time so the usual "add-ons" and rebuilding are missing).

If you haven't been there - you will definately have seen it, its featured in numerous feature films and TV progs.

Ironically a great day in the end, but the first morning I had to defrost the windows of my car before starting off to see my son.

At least, being mid-week, it may not be as busy and frantic as usual.

Mrs ITK bought me a very nice Christmas present today (I'm typing very quietly because she doesn't know it yet !)

Being on the cusp of Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire, I tend to go to Meadowhall around 7ish, on a good day I can get there in half an hour, park up easily and still have a good hour or so around (usually Apple Store, Poundland and HMV.)

Armed Forces - complete waste of time and money ! Merchant of death (but as most are unemployable elsewhere at least we dont have to pay them dole). This "Support our Heroes" (or whatever its called) is in the same category as CIN and the Lottery - you support it if you want to - I wont !!!

(While on that subject, dont I recall at the back of my mind some "complaints" that money, supposedly for a "charity" was actually diverted to other projects - such as buildings approved by the MoD? I might be wrong - but doubt it LOL !)

NHS - a brilliant Liberal idea (though implemented by Labour before they became totally loony).

I do agree about the Help For Heroes thing.

My prophecy is nobody in the UK, has to join the forces. I mean, they know, when they join up, that they are putting themselves, at risk & it may not be a cushty number. It's not like when people got their call up papers, over 50 years back & they had to join up, is it?

But, does Christmas have any significance as its probably all just a myth? Is it not really about getting us to 'waste' money on unwanted iPads and the like? And most of the world ignores it.

Why is it 'wonderful' ????? Is it more or less wonderful than the summer or Diwali?
