Not really because Maureen Corbett a few years before she died came out with home film footage of their Australia trip - which included both Wilf and Harry enjoying Australia together.
Plus they worked with each other again in the late 1970s for adverts on Australian TV and an advert for Kenco coffee.
If they get the 'simple dates wrong', then that's lazy journalism. What else did they get wrong? Quite a lot.

was it the second half ? there was little about their early lives.
There was nothing about Harry H and what we got with Wilfrid was a story of 'confused sexuality', certainly after his wife having an affair with the lodger, but then I'm sure a lot of people not in the public eye also have that to deal with. It's certainly not criminal.
Brambell and Corbett worked together for what 8 years on the show. I struggle to believe that they could come out with the synchronised comedy understanding if they really couldn't stand each other. In fact, they worked not just on the two films together, but also a radio series (adapted TV serials) which I believe went on a few years after the TV show finished.
But of course, they are both dead. And it makes 'good TV'.

Paralysis by analysis Steve. It wasn't gratuitous in any way regarding Brambell's sex life. Dont know about the finer details and didnt care to be honest. Still enjoyed now a distant memory. Coffee table TV.
