Leveson: The report... 12 Years, 7 Months ago
I've now read the whole report... bollocks, of course I haven't and neither has anybody else.

Shami Chakrabarti was spot on when she said on Marr that we all have a tendency to simplify and go to extremes - regulation or no regulation whereas the truth is never black or white but in the middle.

Lazy politicians go either "act of Parliament or anarchy" - it's what nobody suggests but so much easier.

At times I despair of our bonkers species.

I think what ever door you open with Leveson, the press will always win. And thats the point. They have the power. They can instill in the sheep of the UK to vote for whoever is going to be nicer to the press or to the rich barons that control the press. The press want to continue doing illegal things because the sheep continue to consume details about missing, murdered girls, or girls missing presumed murdered, or who is shagging who, or who will be destroyed publicly today for no reason other than extra circulation (doesn't matter if it's true either). None of that has anything to do with proper journalism, proper investigative journalism. The tabloids don't do that anymore, neither does the Daily Dacre.

The Police cannot be trusted to police themselves. We don't trust the BBC, ITV or independent radio to look after themselves, that's why we have OFCOM. Yet the government will give free reign to the press, with all it's power, with all the illegalities that go on within the confines of the newsroom, to police itself. What a fecked up, corrupt country we live in.

few of us get electrocuted these days because of strict rules..thank Heavens !

yet a handful of private, profit making entities are allowed total freedom to operate within a vaccum of laws of their own making.

I asked a local journo once if he came across something illegally, but the story would be the making of his career, would he go through with it. He refused to answer.

Newspapers are giving themselves God like status, just for profit. Remember the actor David Scarboro (who played the original Mark in Eastenders) - he killed himself due to the harassment he got from the press.

Jeremy Brett was also hounded because the press assumed he was dying of AIDs, when in fact he had a number of other health issues as well as a long term psychiatric condition.

The press are scum - simple as. They need legislating and not be given the right to do what they want ad infinitum and not be answerable to anyone.
