'Tory Boy' was a 1990s character created by TV writer/comic/actor Harry Enfield portraying a negative stereotype of young Conservative males. Closely allied to another of Enfield's Tory target figures 'Nice But Dim'.

Based on a snobbish, unpopular boy who went to school with Enfield, Tory Boy is a repulsive 15 yr old with glaringly out-of-touch ideas about much of the world. Enfield states that a young William Hague was his archetype, and that he mixed in other Tory politicians such as Michael Howard and Michael Portillo, on the allegation that they too were "Tory Boys who have never grown up."

Today's Tory Boys would include unearned privelidge/silver-spoon P.M. David Cameron, and George Osbourne, plus multi-millionaire CON-Dem coilition partners Nick Clegg & Co.

In Enfield's 1997 Christmas TV Special, not long after New Labour's victory in the UK General Election, a sketch included Tory Boy's left-wing father wishing that his son would join the New Labour Party. The fairy at the top of their Christmas tree grants his wish and transforms Tory Boy into "Tony Boy". An ironic parody of P.M. Tony Blair who was so Right-wing media emasculated that in true Labour circles New Labour was soon known as as 'Old Tory'.

I think its a log more that 15 years, more like 25 years. Its about 20 years since Harry Enfield had any sort of career

One of the few occasions where I agree with you Robbie. A broken clock is right twice a day.

I never thought he was funny either. The sketch show was pretty much aimed for the teenagers or kids at the time.

I did like some Smashie & Nicey sketches but it came to the point,it was stale before the show ended.

This board continually amazes me not just from the brilliance of most posters but how a theme from over 10 years ago can be dredged up for current comment.

Even more strange is that sometimes I remember the threads.

But why is it 20 years? He's great and always worth watching in most of what he's done. By now he should be a bit like Dick Emery was on TV but I don't think we can call Harry Enfield a national treasure and I think he should be.

It's not because he's a right wing conservative is it? Loadsamoney and all that!

Enfield is one of those comedians I can only stare blankly at the TV and wonder why I can hear laughter? Probably my loss.

I like him too, especially with Paul Whitehouse in "Harry and Paul".
