On Eurostar yesterday I re-watched this old 70s film; it is remarkable, extraordinary, daring (there's a scene when our prisoner hero openly masturbates in the prison visits room whilst gazing at his girlfriend's breasts) and well worth seeing again. Why isn't it ever shown on terrestrial TV?
It's been shown on Channel 5 a few times JK it's a classic movie yet I still need to read the book have ordered it a few times but has never turned up.
Horribly condemned by all the critics at the time of release for polarizing the Turks as evil thugs. They had a point. But still a terrific film which completely enthralls.
In my All Time Top 10 with some wonderful, unforgettable minor roles like the croaky Turkush Judge and the mad professor, urging 'Villyum Heyez' not to walk the wrong way round the prayer wheel. Giorgio Moroder's chase music in the bazaar takes some beating too.
