Horse DNA has been found in some beef burgers being sold in UK and Irish supermarkets, the Republic of Ireland's food safety authority (FSAI) has said.

The burgers were on sale in Tesco and Iceland in the UK and Ireland. In the Republic of Ireland they were on sale in Dunnes Stores, Lidl, and Aldi.

A total of 27 products were analysed, with 10 of them containing horse DNA and 23 containing pig DNA.

Horsemeat accounted for approximately 29% of the meat content in one sample from Tesco.

You are quite right, but you'd think they would move about a bit more wouldn't you (perhaps they were eating carthorse instead on racehorse?)

So a few big stores may have made a small mistake, even exploited (NOT poisoned) the public with Horsemeat. BIG deal !

What is much more interesting is Tesco's almost unique business model - they own nothing...and therefore have zero funding costs.

Not even the goods you bought from their shelves today (all, still owned by the vendors - who have to give 90/120/145 days credit). Nor the premises, which are all leased at significantly below market rentals (due to the Tesco covenant strength), or even their vans (although liveried - subcontracted/outsourced).



Just like their travel, banking and insurance businesses!
