First you go to Algeria - a repressive state (where we sub-contract our torture, were we to condone such actions, which we don't !) - and tell them what a wonderful job they are doing keeping the Islamists at bay (even if you do slaughter a few Brits in the process), then ...

You go to Libya and tell them exactly the same thing - even though the Islamists seem to be rather popular now that the Libyans actually have a say in their affairs.

Why are you so confused?

Is it that you are desperate to be a "statesman" (like B-Liar was, NOT !) ?

Or is it simply that you (like many) are not quite sure who the "enemy" is ... why they are the "enemy" ... what they want ... and why we should not (maybe) let them have it ?

Not at all sure there is any real "threat" - I've always thought these gangs were nothing more than a collective of opportunistic bandits rather than any kind of "ideology".

They seem to operate in countries where there is little law and order (or democracy !) and building those two is probably the best way to deal with them.

Look at both Afghanistan and Iraq (where we threw the towel in and ran like hell) ... the people there probably know their best long term security is provided by the local warlords - not by the Yankers who will flee as soon as it is opportune.

Those that dont want the local warlords will rise up - as in Syria - and its these we should help ... not by sending troops but by arming and financing the opposition to any dictatorship (where it is clear that the majority want the dictatorship out).
