Richard III found 12 Years, 5 Months ago
A fascinating documentary tomorrow night (C4) will reveal that the skeletan found under a Leicester car park last year is indeed the remains of King Richard III (one of my Plantagenet ancestors).

The programme will show just how far we have come with DNA techniques in the last few years.

Must watch.

One has to assume the bones were a lovely shade of golden brown?

By numerous 'routes'

My direct Eyre ancestors were at Agincourt (and are shown on the Court Rolls) and married into numerous families over the Centuries.

Also nice to see that the National Trust (in their new guide to the Longshaw estate) acknowledge Ralph and Robert Eyre were the first landowners (c14).

So you keep saying ... but there is never any evidence is there?

Although I once did a (very rough) calculation (2 parents, 4 grandparents etc) and came to the conclusion that people from that era had about 20,000 descenants today.

Most people cannot trace their lineage beyond a few generations (as they were peasants there is no record of them ever existing) but as my ancestors were major landowners - land records exist !

Have you never heard of the Doomsday Book Ben? Long before Dicky reigned.

Yes - the first record of English land ownership; published in 1086.

A bit outdated when Dicky came along almost 400 years later....

there is indeed evidence and the book is published on the web and I attended my cousin the Earl of Loudon's funeral last year in Wagga Wagga where he lived and died.

As you should know he was regarded as the rightful heir to the throne
Britain's Real Monarch

This family was brought down by ghastly middle class owners infiltrating it..
Can't imagine which side you fit into.

If you are referring to Michael Hastings (of Jerildee, Australia)and his family (of Ashby Leicestershire), the family were "brought down" by one of the Earls blowing all the cash (on gambling !)

Indeed, JK

And that was constantly "ammended" by Azzize Rolls (usually adjudicating on land disputes) and numerous other Court records (often kept in County Record offices or the National Archives at Kew - although sometimes local records are retained locally, often at Universities).

There were also (from 1530) to Heralds Visitations which recorded Coats of Arma and pedigrees of worth families.

Plus, my favourite - Wills. Probabe was handled by the Church until the state took over (appx 1850). Wills often contain alot of details that other documents would not (often confirming family details that would not be found elsewhere.

Only last week I obtained the Will of Sir Robert Eyre (who died in 1541) from Lichfield (where the records for the Easwt Midlands are held).

I note that they did NOT go to Betty's bunch for DNA comparison - they wanted DNA from a real Royal !

Also interesting (to historians and geneologists) how important names are.

It had long been know that Richard III had been buried in the choir of GreyFriars Church - but the Church disappeared in the c16th.

The car park where he was found ?
Its called GreyFriars Car Park !

Absolutely NO evidence for that, Hedda-tas ... and for what purpose?

BOTH had already been declared bastards and therefor could not claim the throne - so neither of them was in Richard's way !

Much more likely that someone else killed them - to point the finger at Richard ?
