Everyone I know who has ever been arrested (in planned raids) : it's always been at 6am !

And they always search their premises if they have a warrant to do so.

This shows me how amazingly naive Littlejohn, the Press Gazette and most journalists are. While I have sympathy for anyone being arrested (except extremely nasty and violent people), why do they think journalists would be arrested in any different manner ?.

For minor matters a person may be asked to attend a police station where they may be arrested, but 6am is the norm..presumably for operational reasons (ie the person most likely will be home).

And if you are getting bail or your solicitor, so much easier to get them in the morning.

As usual, hacks show they are totally out of touch !

Yes; although I love the "individual accountability" aspect of the Casburn conviction; it also highlights the broken Justice system and the deeply ingrained institutional corruptness in the police force.

You see, whilst I think the world of the media has become poisonous, it's been a creeping disease, not affecting everyone. Likewise, the "bending the rules" aspect of the police and judiciary (often with good intentions - jail the baddies) has slowly but surely wrecked the entire structure.

I think you're missing Littlejohn's main point Hedda - not that the way of arresting journos is wrong (and I do feel the 6am rape of privacy is needlessly nasty in most cases) but that the messing about and pre prosecution incompetence is unfair. I think it would be the same if it happened to those fantasy Muslim terrorists too, and Richard is making the point that us Liberals should be up in arms.

Whilst obviously motivated by personal friendship, I think it's dawning on him that the system is broken for all. That's why I was pleasantly amazed. He might even start supporting Shami next!

he's not saying anything new..a few writers have been saying the same thing including the editor of the Press Gazette but it just shows how insular the media really is.

They really don't have a clue how the great masses actually live.
