Kevin Webster 12 Years, 5 Months ago
In an interesting twist, charges that were dropped against Michael Le Vell have been unearth and pressed due to a "public interest" element. However, every cloud and all that....

CORONATION STREET actually has a history of child abuse. Google PETER ADAMSON and go from there. Kevin Webster has been on screen for 30 years. Now he's been charged we must BELIEVE THE VICTIMS and the show must come off the air FORTHWITH to spare the VICTIMS more DISTRESS. I hereby demand Mark WIlliams-Thomas investigates the shows history of CHILD ABUSE and GRANADA & ITV's attitudes to child protection. "EXPOSED - THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STREET" has to be made now.

Seriously, we must charge in and demand this.
We need to petition the slimeball arsehole to investigate YEARS of child abuse amongst the cast, and the CULTURE of abuse harvested by Granada & ITV. I mean REALLY PETITION for "EXPOSED - THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STREET" to be made and aired. Let's have a trawl thru 52 years of cast members past & present. Let's have a LEVEL PLAYING FIELD.

Or, as this is extremely unlikely and lots of his co-stars have already spoke out in his defence (and therefore AGAINST THE BLESSED VICTIMS) is this THE ROPE WITH WHICH OUR FEARLESS HAND-WRINGING DEFECTIVE DETECTIVE HANGS HIMSELF?

I don't think this is the way to go Chris; having suffered from the crime of false allegations - and predicted this witch hunt 13 years ago - I know how incredibly damaging it can be. I've met and got to know many innocent, broken human beings whose lives (and those of their loved ones) have been wrecked by wrongful convictions.

I think it will change - and celebrities such as myself and others (like those we are watching get destroyed now) will have played their part in opening the eyes of society - but not by going down this road.

I suspect it's more likely that allegations may get made by those shouting most loudly about "always believe" and "god bless the police and judiciary"...

In my case that was people like MWT and, of course, loudest of all... Max Clifford.

One conviction and one allegation (which you quote) in over 50 years - hardly a history?

Interesting that the allegations are not that historical (2001-2010).

Perhaps the DPP was frightened of showing favour and bias (towards celebrities) had he not been tested in Court ?

Ben - I speak with irony. There were NO ALLEGATIONS about TOTP in it's lifetime and yet here we are in 2013 and - thanks to Mark Hand-Wringer & his employers at ITV the repeat run has been WRECKED and the show besmirched by lies. A dead man has been made a demon - and there is NO WAY BACK.
Now he, you and the rest of the "Have It Both Ways" population want this latest thing buried as if "it's different"?

My point isn't the destruction of Le Vell - the whole "drop the charges then take them up again 16 months later" is the clearest indication yet that this Witch Hunt against men is operating outside of the law. Le Vell himself is quite obviously mincemeat now.
The point is ITV & MWT must FALL ON THEIR SWORDS. The hysteria created by THEM but now be applied to their own.

Failure to do that is admission that SAVILEGATE is an anti-BBC trawl as much as it is ANTI-MEN.

We must "BELIEVE THE VICTIMS ALLEGATIONS" they bleat day after day after day.

Well, using that belief we must now "believe" that everything to do with CORONATION STREET will send shudders of fear & revulsion through the POOR MITES. Therefore, ITV must take the whole show off the air.

Contrary to popular belief, people CANNOT HAVE IT BOTH WAYS.

Not even ITV viewers.

An indication of the madness we're commenting on!

MWT has been blocking more Twitterers this morning - the ones who are calling for him to investigate his ITV colleagues. What a great guy, what a fearless warrior he is.

But your basic point is a good one; if TOTPs can get dumped, so should any old CS's featuring him... it really is crazy.

When the BBC revised their attitude after my complaint about the TOTP reruns, I thought we were getting somewhere. Apparently not so.

It is ridiculous. Child actors are always chaperoned so even if we assumed the worst he would not be a danger at work.

Its probably so his "victims" are not further traumatised by seeing him on the telly (a la Savile)

Which is why I think - if we take the Headless Chicken approach the idiot masses dictate - it should be OFF SCREEN not "edited". Won't the poor lickle victims be traumatized by the mere sound of the Corrie theme and relive "their ordeal". Christ only knows, the bastard scripts are banal enough already. Editing them will make a nonsense of everything. (*that isn't nonsense already*)

Part of the furore surrounding such allegations is the lack of specifics surrounding such cases. Are we talking about allegations relating to a , 'I thought she was 16 but actually she was 15&3/4' Type scenario, Or is this in relation to something far more sinister? I think specifics/transparency are the key in all of this, The mind easily perceives the worst and so do the public.

But Coronation Street doesn't get re-runs, due to something to do with paying ex-cast members aka they can't agree on a figure.

The only time episodes were re-run was via Granada Plus between 1996 & 2002. The viewing figures got lousy, so they dumped it, after re-running the episodes from March 1976 to Aug 1993.

I used to love Corrie in the Ena Sharples/Leonard Swindley days but I haven't bothered in decades.

It's shown on cable in New Zealand and Australia which raises awkward questions as I'm not sure it's up-to-date.

Lol good one. This celebrity/child abuse thing is getting beyond a joke now.

If there was no evidence last year when it was decided no further action should be taken whats changed this year?

As if I need to ask...

Fair point.

And the victims only deserve to be 'believed' if their claims have any subtance to them and they don't have reputations and histories of being lying, manipulative, shit stirring rat bags, sorry...
