TOPIC: Cardinal Quits!

Cardinal Quits! 12 Years, 4 Months ago
So... was this anti-gay god botherer a closet queen or are the four "priests and ex priests" liars?
Well; priests never lie, do they?
But if they don't, what about all the priests accused of sex abuse who deny it?
And if we believe that sex accusers never lie (like Max Clifford and Esther Rantzen say), how does that tally?

Is Cardinal O'Brien lying? Are priests and ex priests lying? Are victims lying?

Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive...

Off to watch Vicky Pryce defend her lies whilst eating a horse meat burger promised as beef... could this be the year when humans follow lemmings over the cliff of life?

Cardinals are popular at the moment as The Pope can be vicariously attacked ..indeed any Pope but everyone will get a turn.

One day it will be ex-copper TV 'presenters' who sell out for a lousy 500 quid.

Does it really matter, Watcher?

I mean we live in an age when people are vilified and condemned (Savile) without a shred of evidence being tested in Court / without the credibility of any witness being challenged / without any charges EVER being laid?

Against such a backdrop - does it really matter whether he is innocent or not?

I dont for a second believe that Vicky Price is innocent - but a Jury hasnt found her guilty have they ???

so it's alleged he may have put the hard word on someone of similar age a long time ago.

the world has gone bat shit crazy...infractions from our youth are dredged up to destroy a person.

It's madness, insanity. There wouldn't be a person on the planet who has led a blameless life.
All human behaviour may one day be declared illegal.

...except of course bombing Iraq and blowing people to smithereens...that doesn't rate in the slightest.

Are you really typing/saying that this chap - whether guilty or not - should 'stand and FIGHT'?

the Cardinal's sins ... or the Cardinal's sinners ? 12 Years, 4 Months ago

Yet again the circumstances surround the allegations are interesting -

NONE of these "complaints" were made at the time. WHY NOT ?

The Cardinal is already "working his notice" and the complainants have gone public in a malicious attempt to block the Cardinal from taking part in the Conclave. So ... the Vatican has "brought forward" his retirement to make it immediate.

There is clear malice on the part of the complaints ... would you (as a Juror) trust a witness who could not explain why they had not complained IMMEDIATELY and had shown malice at the time of the complaint ? If this "case" appeared in a Court it would be thrown out immediately.

Our system has gone potty - to please the do-gooders.

You typed here today that he 'should stand and fight'

Ignoring my simple question (captioned) - and going off in tangents - doesn't make it go away

ITK, any chance of a straight answer?

Yes ... we know nothing of the background to this (for instance, any complicity between the "complainants"?)

It now transpires that neither does the Cardinal !!!!!

He has not been told the names of his accusers now details of what he is accused of !

Even the Pendle witches got a fairer deal!

Of course he has. Even the Vatican/Catholic church doesn't work like that.

And, just maybe - he reads the papers or watches TV, in any country...

But much more important is the big change to the coming Pope selection process; the winner will now have to give a guarantee on his past life.

Only those with nothing to hide....will come forward..

I've seen no specifics in the media; just general 4 priests (one an ex); behaviour in the 80's, that's it.

It's so odd: I predicted this 13 years ago when it dawned on me what could happen, be it deliberately set up (as in my case - admitted by those involved) or simply inspired by media hysteria.

I'm not saying all allegations are false - far from it; I simply think times have changed, incidents now take on different aspects with the morality alterations, that time plays tricks on memory, that age brings extraordinary adaptations to circumstances and that there are some people who deliberately change their stories, be it for money, sympathy, justification for failure, revenge, jealousy...

Very few allegations are exactly as painted. It's in media, police and CPS interest to colour up descriptions... even judges prefer dramatic extreme stories to dull, confused, muddled, trivial ones...

Why admit to sipping a cup of tea when you can describe gorging yourself on a banquet?

The BBC has been told Cardinal Keith O'Brien is "very upset" over the circumstances of his resignation.

A source within the Catholic Church also said the cardinal "doesn't know who his accusers are and doesn't know what they're accusing him of".

As a result, it is thought that the 'white smoke' will be a long time coming! The successful OAP, who will run a religion with 1.6B followers, will be analysed minutely - from the day he was born, including his family/friends and all relationships; in addition to everything he ever said and did.

The catholic church is now in turmoil and another OAP is not the answer; the last one couldn't last the pace and the one before that was seriously ill coming to the end. Undoubtedly, radical changes are needed - but unlikely to occur in an organisation still living in the middle ages, or before.

No other business/organisation/religion puts this much pressure on one person who - because of a lack of foresight - has to be past retiring age. The system has no logic and doesn't give any continuity, as in less than 10 years time, there'll be another conclave - which will select yet another OAP.
