Good timing !

Today is the start of the MadFarmers Conference.

A conference? I didnt think they could speak - just make monosyllabic grunts.

I'm so confused now I don't know if Muffin the Mule means equine pubic hair or an item of fast food.

Both !

Interesting how the supermarkets - in their press releases - have started talking about "equine products" ... clearly hoping that their thick customer will not realise what it is !

He eats some chicken meat
He eats some turkey meat
He eats some piggy meat
He eats some horsey meat
He buys the meat that reminds him

Burgers now half price at Iceland. Every good food scandal has its silver lining.

100% Pure British Horseburger now 4 for £1. Hurry while stocks last.

I've seen the poster, Jim ... quite clever marketing (for their stupid customers). It says that if you dont like them you can get a full refund.

They clearly know that only a small percentage will ask for a refund so they have managed to sell rubbish (probably at cost) which would otherwise have gone into the bin.

Not all is lost then.

Sorry ITK, I beg to differ. It is their customers who are clever, and the remainder stupid. The fear of continuing to eat what we have always been eating without harm simply because we now know what it is is irrational, all the more so when you consider it is just now, under the glare of the spotlight, that this product is likely to be at its most pure.

Of course, if you were not a consumer of frozen beef burgers in the first place, or have plenty of money, this may not apply to you.

Best Wishes,
Jim

Maybe, Jim .... but have you thought of this?

Maybe the customers are being clever - dont buy meat for a week and see the price tumble?

Is that so? Surely the production / distribution process is months long? (All those frozen container ships travelling round the world with various ahem, "meat" on them)?

The burgers in the shops now will have been made months ago (long before anyone discovered what was in them), won't they?

You're a shocking fellow to strike a bargain with, ITK.

What if I told you I've just had two today, fried from frozen with onions, served with baked beans and toast. A food product worthy of kings. Go on. Try it. It was fantastic.

My enjoyment was only increased by the thought of how cheap it was.

Best Wishes,
Jim

There wasn't anything untoward in Iceland's own brand though, and they claim it is all produced exclusively for them in Britain with British beef so it is probably safer than most.
One of my dogs likes the "all beef" (all gristle)burgers occasionally so i am quite pleased to get them half price.

You are right. I dont suppose it is any safer at all, but I was thinking that if it is all produced in one place it will be easier to check?
I dont suppose Rover cares anyway. He eats frogs given half a chance.

Nonsense. They won't be any safer than any of the others. Horsemeat is delicious, and not risky.

The point is, Jim ... that we are not getting what it says on the tin. OK it contains horsemeat - but what else does it contain?

When we get used to being sold horse as beef will they substitute something even cheaper (and even more disgusting) ?

It says beef - but is not always 100% beef - what is it ?
(and it depends what you class as beef anyway)
