The living blood-descendants of Richard of York (later Richard III) have now formally asked that he be buried in York, having grown up in the Dales nearby and a known visitor to the Minster.
Buried in Leicester (quickly and without any ceremony) only because his last battle was nearby, he had no connections with that city.
Undoubtedly, family wishes should prevail - and his 16/17th generation nieces/nephews should have their way and attend the formal internment of their regal relative, in York.
Leicester should now withdraw, with dignity - and close their premature gift shops, already adjacent to the car park where they eventually found the body after hundreds of years.
