TOPIC: Michelangelo
#95282
Michelangelo 12 Years, 4 Months ago
It's always annoyed me - English people insist on pronouncing him MICHAELangelo whereas everyone in Italy calls him Meekelangelo. He was Italian. Even Yentob slipped from one to another during his excellent show on the man about ten years ago.

My greatest art heroes? Dickens, Michelangelo, Shakespeare, Van Gogh.

I say Michael-Angelo, and Italians are welcome to talk about Enrico Moore.
I do sympathise with your irritation however,as I fly into an inward rage every time I hear a Brit say "cupcake" because it's a fairy cake for crying out loud!

surely Mickeyangelo should be erased from history given his sexual proclivities

And let's be honest, Hedda, what with "dark ladies" and those "fallen wimmin" Charlie championed, none of them are safe. Indeed someone told me yesterday there's a serious debate that the Mona Lisa was, in fact, a boy. Enigmatic? Ooh Matron.

And some say Gok. I dont even know which is correct. The way you first hear it seems to stick so I am a Goffer.

Dutch is the ugliest and most complicated language to pronounce.

I wonder whether the Cardinals, looking at the superb paintings around them as they voted for Pope Francis in the Sistine Chapel, thought about the sexuality of the man who painted them and wondered about the Catholic Church's attitude towards homosexuality.
