Which? survey - 60% now buy less meat ...... 12 Years, 4 Months ago
More than half of UK consumers have changed their shopping habits as a result of the horsemeat scandal, a consumer group survey suggests.

The survey by Which? found that 60% of 2,000 adults questioned online had changed how they shop, with many now buying less processed meat.

It also suggested that public trust in the food industry had declined.

I am guessing that where I live it has put people off all beef, because an awful lot of steak has ended up on the reduced counter in the supermarkets for next to nothing.
I have filled the freezer with it so i am rather smug.

You are very brave (or ..... )

You'll be kicking yourself next week - when the price drops another 50% !

Seriously, though ... very worrying - now that they are not making any profit from this stuff they will be looking to cut corners even further .... what is currently in your meat may seem like heaven compared to whats about to enter your meat !

At thirty pence per sirloin steak i cant complain, but yes. there were stacks of ready meals at ten pence or so too but people didn't want them at any price while I was there, so if they cant make a profit by using the whole carcasses to make junk food the price of "plain" meat will go up and the quality and animal welfare will go down.

I am confident that I can recognise all cuts so my sirloin is indeed cow. (but could have unwanted drugs in it I suppose)
Perhaps people will learn how to make the most of cheaper cuts like trotters and cheeks. They are eaten in sausages so why not?
