I do wish you would get a grasp of economics dear...we pay for everyone to live in Belgravia, one way or the other.

There was a time when Belgravia also had plenty of council flats as did every part of London and the UK.

Maggie T's attempt to re-mould British society (into God's knows what) by allowing tenants to purchase their council flats at knock down prices (what right did she have to discount property generations of taxpayers had invested in ?) was bound to end in tears as choice areas were snapped up and the 'sink' estates ignored.

While the rest of Europe (and the USA/Aust/NZ) were increasing their investment in community housing Maggie (and all who followed) decided they wanted to turn the nation into a country of house owners and thus - created the ridicuous inflated housing market that now exists.

Thus ghastly people like the property developers the Candys, who snobs like me once wouldn't have a bar of, are treated as celebrities and ones to be admired.

The woman in Belgravia is incidental and just an end result of this madness.

I wouldn't have thought Belgravia was the best place for young families?
If they only needed housing benefit for a short time, like if someone was unemployed or ill, i would keep paying it for a while for the sake of the children.
She seems to be pushing her luck.

The point of benefits is to provide a "safety net" - NOT a luxury mansion !

Anyone on benefits who isnt feeling "squeezed" is getting too much cash !

Agree totally ITK.Most EU countries don't pay housing benefit in the way the UK does, and stops paying all together after a certain amount of time.

no you and ITK are wrong as she is only claiming what she is lawfully entitled to and the fact she is an immigrant is neither here nor there.

Or should I be demanding the over 1 million immigrants, and 3 million second generation Brits who inhabit Oz where I spend half my time, bugger off back to the UK and make your problems even worse ?

they could all get the dole and move into ITK's area.

It's not here,it's the fools who made the system that are at fault.
As for immigrants,my husband is Spanish,so I'm an immigrant myself. But we add to our local economy, not take.Moving to a place and fleecing it is both morally wrong, and economically stupid.

you poor dears seem to be missing my point :

there are now almost 5 million Brits in Australia who are 1 or 2nd generation (and perhaps half that in Canada)so in fact Britain exports more people than it imports.

So the fear of being over run by Romanians and Poles is just that : a fear that is not logical.

But the people we "export" are talented hard workers with skills - Australia wouldn't take them if they were not.

Its logical when the population in your village doubles overnight, as sometimes happens.

I think you have to have a certain amount in the bank too. I'm not sure if we have a similar system?

not necessarily..there are a list of skills needed like nurses , electricians etc that let you by-pass queues or you can be an economic migrant (most unfair really) but both countries (and NZ) accept migrants who just want a new life.

Can you blame Romanian Gypsies who may want a new life in the UK (under EU rules) ?. Is there a Gypsy camp in Belgravia ?. I say time to start one.
Either there or next door to ITK
