Alison Steadman was terrific; I have a huge weakness for all Mike Leigh actors; he really nurtures the best. Virtually every great British actor comes from Leigh. I was a bit worried about this latest one for the first half; a bit obvious but, like everything Kay Mellor does, it was all setting up the expected but dramatic ending.
