Make me wonder ... should our emergency services risks their own lives to help people who ignorred all the warnings and have deliberately got themselves into trouble?

I am thrilled that we have lots of snow. We dont get it much here (merseyside) so I am making the most of it.

It is a bit unreasonable if they put a weather warning up for a slight flurry and tell us not to go out.
Usually everyone can carry on as normal,with extra care on the road.
If anyone is daft enough to wander up a mountain, walk around in flimsy clothing or drive dangerously in a full scale blizzard it is a different matter and they can jolly well stay there!

Schools closing. I'd have thought they should not only stay open but teach children how to cope with a few inches of snow. No wonder the Scandinavians know how to make great TV and movies - they keep learning and don't let the odd flake turn them off like hamsters.

One thing that infuriates me about the snow is that we usually lose the television signal. It happens in heavy rain too, but never happened with analogue.
I currently have one watchable channel. Progress my foot!

don't tell the dipsy Tory but winter always comes at the same time every year.

poor dear probably thinks it's a Labour plot.

I'm fed up of paying my hard earned taxes clearing up snow for slovenly northerners!
We spend lots of money on their education,and then are too lazy to get a job in sunnier climates.No wonder the country is in such a mess!
Bring back the workhouse,and the birch Or deport them to Sydney,they can live off Veritas instead

That's why I like living there. Only sheep, and a couple of farmers, for neighbours. I shall be travelling to Cumbria from the Midlands later this afternoon.

We all can since Tesco put a superstore at the end of every road in Britain. (almost)

What I miss most about London is the theatre and the smell of the tube stations.

I have a friend in Richmond, JK and sometimes we "race" to his central London office ... at certain times of day he beats me by about 10 minutes !

(but he cant retreat to the fresh air, and get fresh milk, he's only got that plastic stuff in containers)

That wasnt very clear, was it?

What I meant to say was that he has to leave his house at 7am in order to get to central London in a reasonable time. If he leaves it till 7-45 or 8am it takes him ages.

I can leave here at 7.00 and be in his office in just over 2 hours.

Late on Friday 70 motorists were rescued after becoming stuck in snow drifts in Cumbria.

Police and mountain rescue teams, including the Bay Search and Rescue Team, helped people stuck on the A595, taking them to an evacuation centre set up at a school.

Gary Parsons, of Bay Search and Rescue, said he had never seen conditions like it before: "They were all sort of a little bit chilly and shaken. I think they'd been there for a few hours and the snow came down so fast and it was driven by the wind - that was the big factor."

He said that although there was only about a foot of snow across the flat fields, "where the hedges and the walls have been it's just built up and up and up to get to that sort of height of 14 and 15ft."
