Geldorf now boring the world 12 Years, 3 Months ago
mumbrella.com.au/bob-geldof-earth-hour-148109#comments

Bob Geldof appears to be projecting his own lack of knowledge on to everyone else

Saw Geldof interviewed on Lateline the other night. He’s the most negative, morose, exhausting individual I’ve ever heard speak

Bob who?

The thing I like most about Bob talking is that it means he’s not signing.

he is an arrogant, obnoxious twat

Having met Bob Geldof in a previous life in London all I’ll say is that the man is a total bore

etc

HAHAHAHAHA This is hilarious. If I was his neighbour I would have put strobe lights in the garden for spite!

Mindful that Live Aid generated, very quickly, more than £500m worldwide - for urgently needed famine relief (and got it there fast) - I think I'd forgive him for making his points.

Even if some people think it/he was boring......

What points? Yes we can forgive him for making a bit of an ar*se of himself (who hasn't?)but doing a good thing once is not a free ticket to talk tripe for ever more and be praised for it.
It was probably just a slip up with the timing or something and he was forced to fill in with waffle.

Sugar.

He waffled - so?

A lot of people are alive because of him. Millions even.

Boring, unwashed, difficult (perhaps and maybe) - but facts are facts..........

I have to tell you Ben, nobody has uncovered the facts but there is a strong stream of opinion that Live Aid and Band Aid diverted all their monies away from established charities like Oxfam and Save The Children and, with best intentions but sadly amateur and naive operation, ended up lining the pockets of corrupt officials instead of reaching the needy and may well have lead to many more deaths than would have happened without it.

It's Honey, please.
Bob Geldof may be many things but he is absolutely not unwashed in the slightest.

He came across as an ill-informed twerp and no matter how many people you help it doesn't cancel out any future twerpiness.

Assuming that Live aid did as it intended, it was those who donated the money, distributed the aid and gave medical care that saved the people. Not just one man. Thousands volunteered, and many more gave everything they had.

I don't know what Live Aid funds eventually reached their target...undoubtedly much did.

he also basically took the tired "telethon" model and re-made it (or was it someone else's idea ?..much gossip about that) and then came Farm Aid in the US and so on.

But JK is correct...it's all swings and roundabouts with charity...what one wins another loses.

We are seeing that in process today...those allegedly groped by some dead DJ are diverting funds from hospitals. YV adverts for every charity trying to win your support.

Self appointed child protectors are at each other's throats.

But I dis-like Geldorf because he is boring, pontificates, dreary, predictable, and basically uninspiring.

he'd probably dislike me as well if he knew me.

the Great Hedda is capable of reversing her opinions...turning on sixpence and so on.

If you have an UK Proxy (£5 a month- you can base yourself anywhere and watch TV worldwide) Geldorf makes a lot of sense in this interview :

If that is the case why do keep repeating them? Is there one rule for potential sex offenders and another for people who are trying to raise money for charity using their own skills and abilities? A case of double standards I think.

No; people trying to do good works are absolutely fine and welcome to contribute to society. But let's not be blind to the realities, the potential repercussions and the motivations. I'm against condemning anyone but I'm in favour of suggesting alternative approaches to the accepted wisdom which, frequently, goes for the most simple solution.

there were plenty of government reports that millions were hived off Live Aid funds in rorts, scams, African government crooks, trucking companies, suppliers and so on.

JK tells the truth and it can be backed up : there is only a certain amount of charity dollars and these days that is why they have highly paid professional fundraisers, slick advertising to tug at your heart strings and so on.

One charity's gain is most certainly another's loss. Sad but true.

( I love to be charitable but I never under any circumstances- give to any organisation that has paid workers. Never ever.)

## The Red Cross still hold hundreds of millions of $$$ donated to the Haitian in 2010.

Again this is another one of the expressions that people use when talking about accused sex offenders.

As I've said I think you are applying double standards and are being very selective in the arguments you are making.

I feel exactly the same about paid charity workers, Hedda.
It just feels very wrong to me.
