Connor Doran, labelled the "leader of the pack" by the judge, was sentenced to a minimum of 12 years.

Evans was ordered to serve at least eight years and Brandon Doran received six years for acting as lookout during the attack.

The three boys, who all denied murder, were found guilty in February following a four-week trial.

The Doran brothers' mother, Linda Doran, 42, was jailed for 30 months after being convicted by the jury of perverting the course of justice by providing false alibis for her sons.

Her eldest son, Ryan, 23, was convicted of murder and jailed for life in October after he attacked a stranger with a bottle in a chip shop.

Another of her sons, Jordan, 21, was jailed for six months in February for contempt of court after using a mobile phone to capture images of the courtroom during the trial of his brothers and mother.

It seems that the family were not unemployed, and the area they are from is just an average working class district with mostly Victorian terraces and 1930s semis. No estates or council houses.
So not "that sort" at all, unless any sort can be that sort?

No. I'm saying that there isn't a particular type or class that commit murder or serious crime. Some people are evil but it has nothing to do with them being "rough" which is what I thought you were implying and I apologise if I misunderstood.

This is where we differ ITK: I believe a decent society should look after victims of despair no matter what reasons for their despair. And I also feel there's no reason why caring for one person should cancel caring for another - be they victim or perpetrator.

A fundamental difference of philosophy which can never be changed. You're either one sort of person or the other.

I share your horror at millions of children killed for convenience, but I wouldn't want to add to that number by not providing properly for single mothers and children.

I am not sure we can blame sixties liberals but it does seem as if an awful lot of people put their own needs in front of others.
Those who sit back and let others provide for their horses, and those who say "I'm alright Jack" and let others suffer.

my "sort of people' wouldn't have embraced Thatcherism so the poor chap wouldn't have been homeless as he'd be in a nice council flat and the mindless yobs would have become apprentices, joined a union and had productive lives if British industry hadn't been destroyed
