Vicious 12 Years, 2 Months ago
I thought it had potential but was a bit too obviously old fashioned - and rather like that kind of camp humour, a bit one dimensional.

I quite enjoyed it. Reminded me of 1970/1980s farce. I had a problem with the canned laughter though. They had put laughter in when there was nothing to laugh at. (I remeber the BBC getting the laughter removed from MASH. It worked well, especially comparing the very same episodes that were being shown on Sky WITH laughter!).

On the MASH DVD's can you remove the laughter track, I always disliked canned laughter it insults the viewer's intelligence.

I've just watched it ... quite liked it really (even though very predictable - and with predictable cast?).

Will watch again.

Reminded me of that old show with the tailors ... one was Catholic and the other a Jew. What was it called?

A very old and dated concept (two vintage co-habitating gay chaps making an effort to be funny): This has nothing to offer except two fine actors taking it easy.

Similar to the Odd Couple in so many ways - but that ungay show had so much more.

Never mind the quality feel the width? Yes it was very much like it.

And what a great title THAT was! Far better than Vicious Old Queens (the original title of the Ian/Derek show) which instantly made the concept starkly clear.

Good comparison - I also thought of the peerless "Frasier", whose writers team motto was "Write it gay, play it straight", something the "Vicious" writer might have bourne in mind...

That said, I did laugh out loud a number of times, there's too much talent on screen for it to be a total waste of time, but I can see it getting old very quickly, especially if they only ever stay in the flat...

Very true about the Frasier methodology.

But, this one to one gendre/concept/formula (of two odd blokes talking together, in a rather eccentric way) really started with 'Waiting for Godot' - the famous Samuel Beckett play.

Vladimir and Estragon talk endlessly....whilst waiting for Godot....

Both world class Vicious actors have taken the stage roles of V and E - not a coincidence, I feel.

Last night's episode was rather good; it may be settling in a bit.
