Ken Barlow/William Roache - let's keep all comments on this thread. 12 Years, 2 Months ago
Sadly I, of course, went through this 13 years ago; I call it the Waxie Maxie scheme of "how to get a good story"... encourage, find, discover, provoke one historical allegation about a celebrity - make sure they visit the police and couch a formal complaint - massive publicity in the national press (or, for local personalities, in the local papers)... absolutely certainly other false accusers will emerge... then there's a case.

Great for Publicists selling stories... great for Tabloids who love to titillate... great for Police who want high profile arrests and convictions (and promotion)... as I said 13 years ago (to which the answer was "he would say that wouldn't he?") - it's the new industry - the False Allegations Crime.

No evidence needed; one person's word against another - and the bigger the name, the more the quantity of claims (especially if they are dead and cannot sue).

How can you prove you DIDN'T do something 40 years ago? Especially when, after the headlines, 25 others come out of the woodwork?

Of course you shouldn't have to (innocent unless or until proven guilty) but the law has become a joke that even Judges know is ludicrous.

And, as many fine upstanding moral commentators say (Max Clifford was one, a few months ago) "you must always believe the accusers" (dear Esther Rantzen - has nobody accused her yet?).

Well he certainly handed it on a plate to the plods by telling all and sundry how he must have slept with over a thousand women and how he 'had no control' over his sex drive. It's another ludicrous case but the man is an idiot.

ITV must be so delighted that Mark Williams Thomas, with his Award Winning ITV documentary, has wrecked Coronation Street. Or don't they think any of these Corrie prosecutions have anything to do with "others"? Perhaps a Shiver exposee about co-incidence?

I dont see any reason for him to be edited out at all. Why cant the accuser who presumably has avoided coronation street for fifty years continue for a few more months and let the rest of us enjoy it?

It appears that the allegation involves the "rape" of a 15 year old girl.

Is that 15 years and 1 day ... or 15 years, 11 months, 3 weeks and 6 days, I wonder?

... and why has it taken this girl 50 years to realise that she has been "raped" ?

Answers - I suspect... the climate now (as opposed to the past 50 odd years) is highly conducive for huge media interview fees and compensation; everyone now knows (as they did when I was falsely accused 13 years ago) that an allegation provokes other accusations which can be used in court as backup "proof"; the police and helpful celebrities like Rantzen and Clifford keep - or kept - saying "you will be believed"...

What astonishes me is... where are the claims against newer, younger stars? Unless, of course, more recent pop stars simply remained chaste whilst they were letting us entertain them?

International stars who sells millions in America- like Rod, Jimmy or David - will never get targeted, nor will dead stars (Jimi, Jim, Elvis) who's image rights are gold-dust for so many. I have said this before, and it should give us an indication of who pulls the strings... It doesn't matter how many jailbait they fucked, there won't be any 'complaints' made.

Similarly I'm beginning to conclude this post-Savile witch hunt has been contrived by a powerful figure from the start, someone who is twisted enough to delight in what is happening to society... Think of previous cases - GG, JK etc - as 'warm-up exercises'.

Ask yourselves, the Savile/Yewtree hogwash appears to be founded from the direction of the NSPCC. Can anyone think of a person connected with that organisation with apparent dubious sexual preference of his own (if the 'rumours' are to be believed) powerful enough to sew up both the mainstream media and the police for this venture, who would instruct any critics of the 'hunt' to be stitched up by any means necessary, who would instruct to go only for right wing middle of the road personalities and would delight in criminalising heterosexual behaviour developed over thousands of years of evolution?

One unproven dead occasional host meant Top of the Pops got banned from the airwaves; now Coronation Street seems to be, in tabloid speak, a den of perverts, surely ITV must close the show?

Mark Williams Thomas must be urging ITV to cancel it, mustn't he?

How barmy and lunatic must society get before the majority shout "stop this insanity"?

time for Corrie fans to take to the streets...they cannot be ignored.

a precedent has been set...don't like a character or actor?..complain of abuse and hey presto!..they're gone.

It won't spread to America, to American-based stars and people who make others a great deal of residual income. People like Jimmy Savile, Gary Glitter and even Sir Clifford aren't moneyspinners for the US-based multi-nationals that really are running the country but Rod, the Stones, Bowie, Hendrix, Zeppelin, Aerosmith etc are. Davidson, DLT and Roache are just UK entertainers, free to be destroyed.

I don't think Americans, apart from some states, have the peculiar obsession with child sex matters that Brits seems to have. Let's face it, tabloids seem to revel in it and it only be because their readers cannot get enough.

And US networks aren't as intimidated like ITV or the BBC etc.
