Matthew Parris, an excellent columnist... 12 Years, 2 Months ago
has at last joined the fast growing ranks of people becoming disgusted by the legal system and police behaviour; he writes in The Times today about the growing habit of police making statements after acquittals that the jury got it wrong.

I've sent up this ghastly habit of top cops clamouring for media coverage in Vile Pervert: The Musical but the fact is - after getting away with describing Savile as "the worst paedophile ever" without doing any proper investigation or allowing the innocent man a trial (sorry but "innocent until proven guilty" applies whether dead or alive) - police are instinctlively liking their new approach; do no work, suffer the "wrong" verdict and whine - they did NOT get it right, according to the court (and often, as I say, even when the court finds in their favour).

Despite some current self-promotion agendas.

16 yrs ago, pre-UK Election May 1997, in March '97 'Out' Gay ex-Tory M.P. honest Matthew Parris, on BBC Radio 5 Live said, paraphrased:

" This populist Tory Home Secretary Michael Howard's 'Sex Offender Register', the first ever 'Register' in UK peacetime; is just a last gasp for cheap votes and tabloid profits.

It will do more harm than good, by unfairly discriminating against a tiny minority, all tabloid tar-brushed in the public mind as extreme criminals. In a media made climate of fear with no sense of scale or proportion, while driving ex-offenders fearful of vigilantism off the police radar; and therefore less not more visible."
