Jimmy Savile sex abuse victims are preparing to launch legal action against Barnardo’s and Mind after being abused at a girls’ school run by the charities.
The charities have received legal letters from alleged victims at the Duncroft approved school, Surrey, where the first claims against the DJ surfaced last year.
One woman claims she was abused between 1976 and 1980 when it was run by Barnardo’s and three others say they were molested between 1973 and 1976 when Mind ran the school.
Victims from Duncroft previously described how Savile sexually assaulted them after being allowed to stay overnight by the headmistress, who was not aware of any abuse.
A spokesman for Barnardo’s said: “We are assisting Surrey Police with their current enquiries but cannot comment on individual cases.”
Lawyers acting for two victims have written to Radio Luxembourg, where Savile worked between 1958 and 1967, telling of their intention to sue.
There are also claims against the BBC, the NHS and the estate of the disgraced presenter, who had 450 victims.
