Shall we put things into perspective ? 12 Years, 1 Month ago
ONE UK soldier killed in the UK (yes, just one !)

but ...

The British government's response to claims that British troops abused and unlawfully killed civilians in Iraq was inadequate, the High Court has ruled.

Lawyers representing 180 Iraqi civilians had called for a full public inquiry in Britain.

The court stopped short of ordering such an inquiry, but said there should be a series of further investigations into the allegations.

The judges, in their ruling, said: "the task of investigating and inquiring into the very large number of deaths occurring at many different times and in different locations requires a new approach if it is to be achieved in a timely, cost-effective and proportionate manner that discharges the very important investigative duties imposed upon the state."

Tell that to the Rigby family.

Point out that although their son was decapitated in the most degrading, humiliating and public way, the Government's response to alleged incidents in a war zone has been deemed inadequate.

Ask them to put things into perspective while they are dealing with the horror of that poor lad's unwitting role in a media-driven display that thanks to sensationalist broadcasting, increasingly resembles a trailer for a grotesque movie and ensures his sorry death has been gawped over worldwide.

Put forward your shit stirring point of view to them as they face up to life within the lens of a ruthless press while the country attempts to quell the angy racial tensions that have increased thanks to racist morons wishing to cause harm to decent, peace abiding Muslims.

Remind them that the death of one soldier (yes, just one !) should be put into perspective against this enquiry.

So much has angered me about this horrific incident, the atrocity itself AND the ignorant response to it. Your insensitive and ill-timed comment has prompted me to reply.

Have some fucking dignity and respect and think about your words.

Yes. ITK has merely stated facts, however, difficult as it is, I think we should be prepared to tell them to the Rigby family. For all that, they will remain true.

Placing the lives of civilians at risk in a war is a crime of war.

Launching an unprovoked aggressive war against a sovereign state is a crime against peace. In the stated opinion of one of the most senior legal figures in the land, former lord chief justice, Lord Bingham, the invasion of Iraq was unlawful.

On the eve of the invasion General Tommy Franks declared "we don't do body counts". Though we never do count our victims, estimates put the toll of dead due to our invasion at well over a million.

Some members of the Rigby family may struggle long to comprehend their loss. Is it possible to hold these things in mind while at the same time extending the deepest sympathy to the families of those who have placed their lives on the line in obedience to orders for our protection? They will want our sympathy, but they may also want to understand the hatred of which their son became a target.

Though it is not easy, I think we could do worse than state the facts.

Excellent, Jim

Noam Chomsky has repeatedly said that the best way to avoid ghastly horrible things happening back home is to cease visiting shocking brutalities upon other nations as the USA, UK and their allies have done for hundreds of years.

If you poke a nasty spider or snake they will strike out at you.

Oddly the man waving the knife in the videos tells the truth- the leaders and politicians who make the decisions that will end in the deaths of thousands will rarely be brought to account.

Sadly we see the result....a man is brutally murdered in the street. It's hideous and shocking and inexcusable but actions have results, often unintended and unforeseen results.... an innocent man going about his lawful business is brutally murdered on the excuse he 'represents' the nation.

Many of us predicted that the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq would energise a million 'Jihardists' and we were right.

No-one wins.

Whooppee ! Hedda-tas gets it right (for once LOL !)

Meanwhile ... Theresa May wants to re-invoke the "snoopers charter" - clamping down on ALL our freedoms and punishing everyone (just in case).

These men were know to MI5 (yet nothing could be done to prevent the attack).

It provokes this question -

Would you give away virtually all your rights to someone who clearly couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery ?

When we have to sacrifice our values and freedoms, then the terrorists have already won.

Very good points here; the species is in one hell of a mess and our leaders don't appear aware that actions have consequences.

More evidence of war crimes committed by UK troops.

(notice how we offer to return them, once our illegal Guantanamo has been found out?)

Reminded of a really appropriate remark in the late Bob Monkhouse's book.

"War doesn't determine who's right. It just determines who's left".
