ONE UK soldier killed in the UK (yes, just one !)
but ...
The British government's response to claims that British troops abused and unlawfully killed civilians in Iraq was inadequate, the High Court has ruled.
Lawyers representing 180 Iraqi civilians had called for a full public inquiry in Britain.
The court stopped short of ordering such an inquiry, but said there should be a series of further investigations into the allegations.
The judges, in their ruling, said: "the task of investigating and inquiring into the very large number of deaths occurring at many different times and in different locations requires a new approach if it is to be achieved in a timely, cost-effective and proportionate manner that discharges the very important investigative duties imposed upon the state."

> Tell that to the Rigby family.
Yes. ITK has merely stated facts, however, difficult as it is, I think we should be prepared to tell them to the Rigby family. For all that, they will remain true.
Placing the lives of civilians at risk in a war is a crime of war.
Launching an unprovoked aggressive war against a sovereign state is a crime against peace. In the stated opinion of one of the most senior legal figures in the land, former lord chief justice, Lord Bingham, the invasion of Iraq was unlawful.
On the eve of the invasion General Tommy Franks declared "we don't do body counts". Though we never do count our victims, estimates put the toll of dead due to our invasion at well over a million.
Some members of the Rigby family may struggle long to comprehend their loss. Is it possible to hold these things in mind while at the same time extending the deepest sympathy to the families of those who have placed their lives on the line in obedience to orders for our protection? They will want our sympathy, but they may also want to understand the hatred of which their son became a target.
Though it is not easy, I think we could do worse than state the facts.

Woolwich Killing: Asking the hard, human questions
This blog entry puts it very well.
Excellent, Jim
"The first compassionate thought should always be with the immediate victim, the person or persons killed, the life taken. That means all persons killed, all life taken, whether in Afghanistan, Iraq or on 'our' streets".

More evidence of war crimes committed by UK troops.

(notice how we offer to return them, once our illegal Guantanamo has been found out?)
