"On the 30th anniversary of the historic IR agreement the Prices and Incomes Accord, a leading workforce academic says we should be grateful for the deal, which allowed Australia to restructure its economy without tearing apart its sense of community and creating class divisions for years to come."

The irony is, everyone goes on about how Thatcher destroyed forever the UK's 'sense of community' and yet the UK appears to be 3rd from top in this sector - several places above Australia. The most telling one is life satisfaction which isn't that high, but then again UK people are always moaning about something.

... and is there a good community spirit amongst the original population too ?
they are mostly in the grip of spirits..alcoholic ones and who could blame them after our ancestors used them for shooting practise. David Gower is mostly correct..little culture apart from Hedda and Dame Edna. Although I notice a great absence of kulture at British sporting events as well. Not that I'd bee seen dead at any sporting event unless there was a VIP Hospitality marquee
