TOPIC: GCHQ - and spying (on us !)

GCHQ - and spying (on us !) 12 Years, 1 Month ago
Lord Carlile, a former independent reviewer of terrorism legislation, defended the sharing of intelligence between the US and UK.

He told BBC Radio 5 live: "If the United States authorities acquire a piece of intelligence that may save lives in the United Kingdom, we would expect that intelligence to be shared whether it has been obtained under United States law, which may not be compatible with our own, or not."

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-22832263

That's a bit like saying "we do not condone torture" - but we sub contract it to others !

Of course, they ALL say "if it saves one life ... etc" BUT what about the billions of false allegations, smears lies and rumours?

Maybe ITK, we should have some manners and stop listening to other people's conversations.

Even if they are planning mass killing. Us Brits prefer to play the game (cricket/fair play etc.) - don't we?

Yes ... we do.

I note the government denies any wrong-doing.

Perhaps, then, they may explain why the Independent Commissioner (Carlile) said we SHOULD use illegal evidence - even if obtained by wrongful (and illegal) means?

How "independent" (and lawful) is our "independent commissioner" ???

Matters such as national security are never disclosed - but we (like everyone else) stopped playing cricket a while ago!

You probably think the Geneva Convention should still be observed. Our enemies never heard of it.

Our government must make sure that a 9/11 doesn't happen here - and, no doubt, tough decisions are being made daily by Cameron/Haigue and co.

Which is why we have an independent commissioner to see that the law is being obeyed - not a commissioner who will turn a blind eye to lawlessness.

Perhaps the best way to make sure we are not a target is to stop giving people reason to attack us?

Iraq and Afghanistan are a total mess - and we will run like hell very shortly (indeed a US General is on the BBC website at the moment urging talks with the Taliban) !
What happened to the "peace, stability and democracy" that MadBush and B-Liar promised us ?

Breaking the law does NOT make us safer - just as torture does not produce the truth - people having their eyes gouched out tend to tell their torturers whatever they want to hear (whether true or not).

Two highly simplistic points.

Fanatics will always find a reason.

Who's law are you refering to? The random bombing/killing of innocent people has changing everything - and, often, we are not fighting countries anymore. Just cowards that blend into our communities, to await their chance to attack. Should the Geneva Convention apply to them?

to paraprhase Noam Chomsky yet again...the best way to remain safe and not have people do dreadful things to you, is first not do horrible things to them.

The US , UK and it's slave like allies have been colonising and invading other countries for their assets for centuries including this one with Afghanistan and Iraq, blowing tens of thousands of their innocent citizens to smithereens and then we wonder why sane or deranged people may target us.

As sensible journalists have pointed out, more people die in the bathtub every year than by terrorist's hands (let alone every other accident) or indeed are murdered in the US by their fellow citizens every year than have been killed by terrorists in decades.

We carried on like total twats about East Germany and the Stasi who would have envied today's collection methods of data on everyone and while East Germans thought that when the Berlin Wall was demolished by David Hasselhoff) freedom was upon them and all the joys of the West but instead, soon found the rents on their lovely state provided council apartments sky-rocketed ( as did thousands of dear old Russian ladies in Moscow etc who suddenly found themselves bussed to the outskirts when Perestroika kicked in.

Bertrand Russell said over 60 years ago...the West would gradually become the East and visa versa.

Oh, heeda-tas ... you are starting to sound sensible LOL !

or indeed are murdered in the US by their fellow citizens every year than have been killed by terrorists in decades.

... and again !!!

Even in 2001 (the year of Sept 11th), you were still SIX TIMES more likely to be killed in the USA by a fellow Yanker than by a terrorist !

In every other year since ... many many more times more likely to be killed by a fellow Yanker than a terrorist (as there have been no attacks since).

However ... its very dangerous to go to a school / cinema / shopping mall etc !

Remember, hedda-tas ... once you let the "security services" have free reign you end up with dead Brazilians on the streets on London.

The security services "knew about" the suspects in the recent Woolwich killing - yet that made no difference to the outcome ....

Average US murder rate - appx 15,000 (in 2001 it was 16037)

Number killed on Sept 11th = 2750 (several hundred of whom were not Americans)

DO THE SUMS !

Flawed - by too many wrong assumptions.

Even in that very unusual year, there were 5 homicides per 100, 000 of population in the USA.

Chances of being killed - 20,000 to 1.

In 2009 you were more likely to be killed by a Police officer than by a Terrorist:
