perhaps the tide is turning in areas of the law. From memory Operation Ore was repeated in many countries including Australia and unfolded in the same manner with dozens of suicides after the media went on an orgy of 'outrage' encouraged and inflamed by exagerated police press releases.
It seemed to be the beginning of a new attack upon people with the so-called children's 'charities' screaming to high heaven.
I remember discussing Ore with a criminal lawyer friend in the UK when it happened and he told me much of the legal fraternity recognised it for what it was (ie: above)
A recent case has caught my eye in Oz which has just set a precedent and as we know, case law in the UK, NZ, Canada and Australia all affect each other :
in this matter a woman is suing the police for malicious prosecution. She spent 10 years in jail. The law firm is also the one I use and I brought it up in conversation recently...she said she would have accepted $10m in compo if it had been offered but my legal contact says they are going for heaps more and are determined (with encouragment from many lawyers) to teach police a lesson that there will be recriminations when they do act illegally...not just financial : they expect this to go for years but are after scalps.
