perhaps a person may survive for one week but it's the relentless cycle that people get into with poverty (and the dole/pension is poverty pay.)

That sets off a whole new range of anti-social results as evidenced by ITK's 'dolers', the vast majority who are lawful but a small bunch end up in all sorts trouble, car thefts, riots with a much higher bill with policing, jails courts etc etc.

Which is why Caesar who had more brains than today's plonker pollies invented the 'dole'.

Benefits are essential to a decent society - as is a well run NHS. Responsibility for the less financially fortunate is a crucial element in the human race, as is a fair judicial system and a constructive and kind treatment of prisoners.

I fear Democracy, which would support such ideals, is incapable of delivering them efficiently, as voters place crosses due to superficial media slogans and images such as good hair and nice teeth. The vast majority do not vote intelligently; the lowest common denominator wins. Which is why democracy is collapsing.

I want an ugly but able dictator with a short, fixed term in office. The Romans had it right (sometimes - the 5 "good" Emperors including Hadrian who had excellent taste in boys).

There are no benefits that are as low as £53.00, the lowest benefit is about £75.00, which is for a single person on job seekers allowance. That said I don't think IDS could live off this, as he puts in £39 expenses for a breakfast.

That's incorrect. Job Seeker's Allowance is £53 a week if you are 25 years old or younger.

Job seekers allowance is £51.85 per week for those aged 16-24.

Isn't it?
Don't they just pay a tiny little bit - instead of getting it all free?

If you are right then I'm very happy that we are getting some of the money back, that we have wasted for all these years.
