Every time there's a sex conviction, some dummy cop stands on a Court step and says "Please come forward and tell us if you've been abused YOU WILL BE BELIEVED".
Why? Do they believe every accused murderer who claims innocence? Or every fraudster? "I didn't smuggle them drugs"... "OK, you will be believed".

No, what they mean is "the way the law is, we can easily get convictions, which earns us promotion, great media coverage and a bonus".

OK, if nobody ever lies about stuff (note today some dreadful woman who falsely accused a taxi driver of attacking her - fortunately he kept a recording)... but people do (in droves - and exaggerate like crazy).

Why can't Chief Inspector Plod say "you will be believed unless of course you are lying in order to make money in compensation, media fees, or get sympathy or revenge, or because you're mad, in which case you'll be prosecuted and sent to prison for ages"?

Sadly the answer is because police no longer want the truth, they want convictions.

If that were the case they would also want convictions of false accusers. There must be more to it than that: a culture of paedohysteria perhaps.

Having looked into the court process, I think when they say "you will be believed" it means just that.
It seems that you can easily get a conviction with no evidence other than the accuser's word.

I think it is quite unusual to detect false accusations and it seems that most are exposed by accident or when the liar confesses.
